Boleboř combines sacred architectural history with a history of recreational use and a range of cultural and outdoor activities. The Baroque Church of St. Nicholas was completed in 1729; later, a chapel was consecrated on the site of the former Church of St. Nicholas. The development of holiday cottages into recreational accommodation is also part of the town’s history. This gives your travel planning a clear focus: would you like to focus on architectural history and the gallery, or are you also interested in the named hiking and climbing destinations?

Church of St. Nicholas and Chapel

The Church of St. Nicholas was dedicated to Saint Nicholas and completed as a Baroque church in 1729. The Chapel of St. Nicholas was consecrated on 23 August 1993 on the site of the former Church of St. Nicholas; it was given a tower in 1999. The sequence distinguishes three construction phases: the completion of the Baroque church, the consecration of the chapel, and its later addition. For travelers interested in sacred architecture, this brings together an older church and a chapel built on its site. The dates make the changes tangible without conflating the individual construction events.

Gallery and History of Recreation

The Nová radnice Municipal Gallery is located at Boleboř 79 in a former recreation center. It opened in 2026; check the current visitor arrangements before your visit. The gallery is therefore a specific cultural destination for anyone wishing to include a gallery visit in their trip.

In the late 1950s, a former inn in Boleboř was converted into a recreation center. Another development shaped the town: city dwellers bought unoccupied holiday cottages in the area and converted them into recreational accommodation, turning Boleboř into a recreation area. Together, these changes tell the story of leisure as part of the town’s history. They differ from the construction chronology of the Chapel of St. Nicholas: this is not about a single building, but about the transformation of buildings and how they were used.

Half-Timbered Houses with Limited Access

Several well-preserved half-timbered houses remain in Boleboř. Houses numbered 6, 10, 13, and 14 are listed as immovable monuments, privately owned, and not open to tourists. This distinction matters when planning: for these four houses, monument status does not mean tourist access. The house numbers provide a specific reference to the protected half-timbered houses, but you should not plan to visit them as accessible attractions.

Hiking and Climbing at Kočičí skály

Kočičí skály can be reached via the Jirkov–Boleboř–Svahová–Hora sv. Kateřiny road and the Sluneční cesta. The Kočičí skály climbing area near Pyšná has long, difficult routes as well as several easier ones. This lets you choose an activity suited to your ability without treating all the routes as having the same difficulty. Before setting out, check trail conditions and any local climbing restrictions, as these can change.

The sculpture symposium also adds a clearly dated note to the cultural history: its 13th edition took place in Boleboř in 2015. Alongside the construction phases of the Church of St. Nicholas and its chapel, the event offers another perspective on the town’s cultural life.
