Záluží: Chapel, Ponds and Geological Features

Záluží combines village history with a landscape in which ponds, erratic boulders and geological features offer various opportunities for discovery. The village is home to a niche chapel with a small bell tower; at the same time, Koňský vrch draws attention to the natural side of the region. Ponds and Geological Features

Záluží is located in the immediate vicinity of Zálužský rybník. The pond contains numerous erratic boulders of different shapes and sizes. The Frank pond lies above Zálužský rybník. The differences in the shape and size of the erratic boulders make individual natural details visible. Together with the two bodies of water, they give the landscape several specific motifs that differ from one another while still belonging to the surroundings of Záluží.

A second distinctive feature is Koňský vrch. The mountain has natural Erlan outcrops as well as a characteristic morphology and composition of the rocks. It is both a mineralogical locality and a local landmark; the geological locality has been recommended for protection. The natural Erlan outcrops show a different aspect from the erratic boulders in the pond: rather than individual stones in the water, rock on the mountain shapes this part of the landscape. As a local landmark, Koňský vrch also forms a prominent point of reference in the surrounding area.

The Chapel of Záluží

The Chapel of Záluží stands on the village square between four lime trees. The municipality had it built in 1923. Its niche contains a statue of the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus. The bell is also part of the village’s history: the Dvořák family bought the bell for the chapel. Thus, the village square brings together architectural history, religious representation and the story of how the bell came into being.
