Wettern (Větřní) combines remarkable ecclesiastical buildings with a multifaceted local history. The Church Kostel svatého Jana Nepomuckého ve Větřní was built between 1936 and 1938. Its basilica floor plan comprises a central nave and two side aisles. The tower is particularly striking, transitioning from a square to an octagonal shape. The Chapel Kaple u kostela svatého Jana Nepomuckého ve Větřní was reconstructed in 2008.

A second historic highlight lies in the cadastral area of the town of Větřní: There, the Church Kostel svatého Jana Křtitele in Zátoň stands on a prominent hill above the Vltava. It was built after 1490 on older foundations and is described as a broad single-nave church with a pentagonal presbytery. Those interested in different architectural forms and long historical developments will find a clear contrast here between the building constructed in Wettern from 1936 to 1938 and the older church in Zátoň. From the fortress to industrial history

Wettern's cultural history also includes the late-Renaissance fortress Pozdně renesanční jednopatrová tvrz Větřní. It was first mentioned in 1347 and rebuilt in the late Renaissance. In 1892, the fortress was converted into a school. The successive dates illustrate how the building's function changed over several eras, without requiring a long list of additional sights.

The industrial past can also be traced at a specific location. In 1867, Ignác Spiro bought the Pečkovský mlýn grain mill on the road from Český Krumlov to Rožmberk and established a wood-grinding mill there. He then gradually began relocating production from the paper mill in Český Krumlov to that site. The Papírny Větřní (JIP) were among the largest paper mills in the Czech Republic. Thus, alongside churches and the fortress, Wettern also offers access to the region's economic and production history.

Cycling and water on the Vltava

There are several clearly described options for active days. After the railway crossing to the paper mill on the outskirts of Větřní, a cycling loop crosses a bridge to the right bank of the Vltava. It then follows a flat cycle path along the river to Český Krumlov. The regional Českokrumlovsko cycling loop also passes through Větřní. This allows you to choose between a specifically described route along the river and a regional loop without confusing the two options.

Wettern is also connected to the water: The Branná–Nové Spolí section on the Vltava passes the Jez Větřní – Pečkovský mlýn weir at river kilometre 30.1. This precise reference is particularly useful for planning if you want to combine cycling and water experiences on the same trip.

Outdoor swimming pool and sauna

As a way to balance culture and activity, the Venkovní koupaliště Větřní is available. The outdoor swimming pool has a slide and offers an opportunity to cool off. A hydraulic device enables people with disabilities to enter the water. At the Bazén a sauna Větřní centre, the sauna has two cabins and a plunge pool. Depending on your daily itinerary, swimming and sauna sessions can therefore be planned as separate activities.
