Vyšný – Nature, Educational Trails and Cycling

Vyšný is a charming starting point for days spent among protected landscapes, historic traces and clearly differentiated trails. The Vyšenské kopce National Nature Reserve is particularly close by: Its educational trail begins in Vyšný in front of the administration building of the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area. This allows you to begin your nature experience directly in the village, without first having to look for another starting point.

Educational Trails with Different Character

The educational trail in the Vyšenské kopce National Nature Reserve is 2.5 km long, has a moderate level of difficulty and is intended exclusively for pedestrians. This clear restriction distinguishes it from options for cyclists or excursions by car. At the end of the walking trail, former graphite-mining pits remain visible on the outskirts of Český Krumlov near the Vyšný residential area.

For a longer tour, the Granátník Educational Trail is a good option. It can be started in Český Krumlov, particularly in the Vyšný district. You can get there on foot or by car; parking is available at the Nový Dvůr car park. The educational trail is 8.5 km long and has a low level of physical difficulty. This means that Vyšný offers two differently designed educational trails: a 2.5 km walking trail with a moderate level of difficulty and an 8.5 km route with low physical demands.

Protected Landscape and Special Natural Landmarks

The Vyšenské kopce National Nature Reserve is considered the most valuable natural area in the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area. On limestone bedrock, it protects communities of warmth-loving plants and animals. Meadows, shrubs and forests with a naturally composed species structure give the area its varied character.

Another facet is represented by the Cvičák Natural Monument, which lies in the cadastral areas of Vyšný and Český Krumlov. Dry and mesic meadows alternate there with scattered woody vegetation. The former motocross track is still used by cyclocross enthusiasts. Cvičák thus combines a protected landscape with a visible trace of its former use, without the former track having to be reinterpreted as an ordinary tourist attraction.

Cycling Route, Carriage Ride and Local History

The Malý lazecko-vyšenský circuit is an easy, 14 km paved cycling loop. From the Vyšný district, it leads downhill via new switchbacks to the sports complex.

Those who would like to experience the surroundings in a different way can plan a carriage ride through nature. The ride passes through Lazec, Vyšný, Český Krumlov and Dobrkovice. Refreshments can be enjoyed in the carriage, or you can stop for a picnic. The local history also reaches far back: The village of Vyšný was first mentioned in writing in 1272.

On the western slope of Liščí hora in the Cvičák Natural Monument, an 11 m deep exploration adit, Shaft No. 42, was constructed after 1945 to investigate a graphite deposit. Today it has been filled in; the area is secured with a wooden fence and information panels. Before setting out on an educational trail, Vyšný also has a local children's playground.
