Cultural history between church and archaeology

A clearly visible landmark in Čakov is the Early Gothic Church of St. Linhart. It stands at the highest point of the village and is visible from far across the surrounding landscape. The church dates from around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Inside is the tombstone of Jiří Čakovec of Bohuslavice, dating from 1529. St. Linhart is accessible during church services—a key distinction from an attraction that is open at any time.

Further historical traces can be found in and around Čakov. Archaeological investigations on the edge of the village uncovered settlement remains from the Hallstatt period, including an estate belonging to iron producers. In the forest 1.5 km south of Čakovec, there is also a group of burial mounds from the Hallstatt and La Tène periods, dating from the 6th to the 4th century BC. In Čakov, a village fountain complex next to the church commemorates the year 1869. Opposite the rectory stands the Chapel of St. Wenceslas, dating from 1883.

Čakovec also adds to the historical picture. Baroque House No. 6 stands on the site of a former Gothic fortress and was built by monks from Vyšší Brod Cistercian Monastery. This does not amount to a single museum programme, but rather a sequence of different testimonies: sacred architectural history, medieval memory, earlier settlement traces and regional everyday culture.

Pond landscape and cycling

Another side of the surrounding area is revealed by Holubovská Bašta. The place lies on the shore of Dehtář Pond, which is used for recreation. A panoramic view of the pond can be enjoyed from a hill in Holubovská Bašta. This allows you to add an impression of the landscape to your stay without losing sight of the cultural and historical destinations.
