Road I/23 also runs through Jilem, dividing the village into two parts. For arrival by train, Stojčín is an important reference point: the nearest railway stop is 10 km from Jilem. Road I/23 and the Stojčín stop, located 10 km away, provide two specific orientation points for the journey.

History and Local Landmarks

The Jilem monument to those who fell in the First World War dates from 1921. Another historical focus is the local distilling history: an agricultural distillery was founded in Jilem in 1880. After it was dissolved in 1883, an agricultural cooperative distillery was established there in 1902. The sequence of 1880, 1883 and 1902 makes the history of distilling a separate chapter in the village’s history. There are also wayside shrines in the vicinity of Jilem. The historical perspective thus extends from the village center and its monument into the surrounding area. Different forms of regional history therefore come together in the village and its surroundings.

Traditions and Active Events

For an active pursuit, the tennis court in Jilem is also available to the general public. It is accessible from spring through autumn. The tennis court represents an individual sporting activity, while Masopust and the cycling trips complement the year with cultural and sporting events. Jilemský masopust adds a cultural accent: it is a local tradition featuring colorful masks and music. Cycling is also associated with the village: Jilemská Galuska took place for the 30th time on May 23, 2026, and the Jilemské galusky cycling trip is associated with Jilem. The village’s history thus offers not only permanent monuments, but also recurring and sport-oriented events.

The Tripoint as a Special Point of Reference

The tripoint monument stands at the boundary of the municipalities of Jilem, Horní Němčice and Horní Meziříčko. New Year’s hikes to the tripoint are documented for 2023, 2024 and 2026.
