Discover Dunajovice: Nature, Stations of the Cross and Culture

Dunajovice lies on the edge of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area. South of the village rises Dunajovická hora, whose natural surroundings, viewpoints and religious structures shape a stay in the area. A longer cycling tour through the landscape of the Třeboň ponds also passes through Dunajovice and approaches the ridge.

Dunajovická hora and its viewpoints

Dunajovická hora lies south of Dunajovice and reaches an elevation of 504 metres. It is the highest point in the Třeboň Basin. From there, views extend across the Třeboňsko region, the Rožmberk pond, and Veselsko and Ševětínsko. The ridge therefore provides a clear landscape reference for days when the surroundings are to be viewed not only from the centre of the village but also from an elevated vantage point.

Chapels and the Stations of the Cross

The Chapel of the Annunciation stands on the village square in Dunajovice. It dates from 1906 and was built on the site of an older chapel. It is designated as a cultural landmark, and its visual appearance is to be preserved. Another niche chapel dating from around 1800 stands in Dunajovice between house numbers 42 and 51. Thus, two different historical points of reference can be found in the village: a chapel on the village square and a smaller structure between the houses.

The Stations of the Cross on Dunajovická hora comprise fourteen chapels depicting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The Chapel of the Holy Cross stands at the end of the Stations of the Cross and was built over a spring in 1885. The stations and the final religious structure give the route a recognisable sequence. Those interested in religious culture will therefore find not just a single building here, but a spatially connected section of the ridge.

Swimming and cycling around Dunajovice

Dunajovická hora can be reached by car and offers parking there. By bicycle, it can be reached via cycle route 1105. This provides both a road with parking and a specific cycle-route connection for getting there.
