Dolní Žďár: Cycle Routes, the Nežárka and Local History

Dolní Žďár combines river landscapes, cycle routes and cultural-historical discoveries to create a diverse destination in the Czech Republic. The Nežárka, Local History and Horní Lhota

Dolní Žďár was first documented in 1211. Horní Lhota also has its own local history: the district was formerly also known as Ovesná and became a settlement within the municipality of Dolní Žďár in 1869. Its historical framework therefore extends from the first documentary mention to the incorporation of Horní Lhota into the municipality in the 19th century. It passes through Dolní Žďár and is designed as a family outing with an easy level of physical difficulty. A longer option is the 61 km Partnerství cycle route, which also passes through Dolní Žďár. The different route lengths help you classify the type of cycling day you want as early as the planning stage.

At the weir in Dolní Žďár on the Nežárka, partial passage is possible at higher water flow; carrying the boat around the weir is possible on the right bank. This specific feature belongs to the local river route and distinguishes it from the purely route-based information about the cycle paths.

Dolní mlýn, known in German as Niedermühl, is also part of the local history passed down through the generations. A combined mill and bakery operation is documented for the complex in Dolní Žďár. The mill machinery survives as a preserved torso. The complex thus connects the history of milling with that of the bakery, while the preserved torso adds the technical aspect.
