Clunek between a Natural Monument and a Cultural Landscape

Clunek combines the landscape of Česká Kanada Nature Park with protected ponds, marked cycling routes and remarkable examples of rural architectural heritage. Forests and ponds shape the landscape in the surrounding area. At the same time, the area is home to a national nature monument, a Baroque pilgrimage church and preserved examples of folk architecture. This gives you a range of options for planning your trip – from nature experiences and a cycling tour to discovering regional history.

Ponds, Wetlands and Nature Conservation

One of the defining landscape areas is the Krvavý a Kačležský rybník National Nature Monument. It is located near Člunek, within Česká Kanada Nature Park. Its core consists of the Krvavý pond, covering 127 ha, and the Kačležský pond, covering 176 ha. These are complemented by extensive, significant shoreline reed beds as well as adjoining wet meadows and peat meadows. The nature monument also protects natural wet forests, transitional mires and shoreline reed beds.

The applicable protection regulations are important when staying in this area: no fires may be lit there without the consent of the nature conservation authority. Breeding birds in the shoreline vegetation must not be disturbed. Another option in the surrounding area is Klikovský pond, where swimming is possible. This allows you to take different priorities into account when planning without confusing the protected shoreline areas with an ordinary recreational destination.

Cycling Route and Historic Landscape

A marked cycling route runs through the area around Člunek. It continues via Kaproun to Zvůle. This specific route gives your planning a clear direction if you would like to explore the landscape by bicycle. Česká Kanada Nature Park also includes a historic narrow-gauge railway. In this same nature park region, a cycling route, a pond landscape and a distinctive transport heritage site thus come together.

Church and Folk Architecture in Člunek

The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk dates from 1787. It is a Baroque pilgrimage church built on the site of a chapel dedicated to the Fourteen Holy Helpers, erected in 1705. The building stands on the crest of a small hill and can be reached from the west across an open area. Lomy is also home to a chapel that is considered a local historic cultural monument of the municipality of Člunek.

The preserved folk architecture also makes the area interesting for visitors interested in culture. The surviving architectural heritage includes sacred buildings, a residential house and farmsteads from different periods. Among the valuable buildings is House No. 42, a structure from the first half of the 19th century. Also included are the farmsteads at House Nos. 61 and 62, classified as Baroque peasant architecture dating from 1823.
