Klení – Church, Hiking Trails and Landscape

Klení combines historical traces with several routes into the surrounding landscape. At its center is the Kostel sv. Vavřince church, while a yellow-marked hiking trail and various excursion routes connect the village with the surrounding peaks. This creates a destination where you can explore culture and nature in different ways.

The Kostel sv. Vavřince Church

The core of the Kostel sv. Vavřince church dates from the mid-13th century. In 1958, the church was declared a cultural monument. Its historical significance is not limited to the church building alone: Together with the church, the cemetery surrounding it, with its gates and the mortuary chapel later built on the north side, forms a unique protected historic complex.

Older religious landmarks can also be found in the vicinity of Klení. Two wayside shrines from the 16th century stand there. Those interested in history, sacred architecture and the details of historic village landscapes can include these various landmarks as discoveries of their own when exploring Klení, without reducing the village to a single attraction.

Hiking Trails and Excursion Routes

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs through Klení from Žumberk for 8 km to the summit of Kohout. The summit of Kohout is 3.5 km from Klení. The trail therefore leads through the village to a specific summit destination; the 8 km refers to the route from Žumberk to Kohout, while the 3.5 km indicates the distance between Klení and the summit.

The “Drůbeží trasa” geocaching route leads to all three peaks of the Soběnovská vrchovina. This range is also known as the Slepičí hory. The route starts and ends in Klení. Unlike the yellow-marked hiking trail, it does not lead only to Kohout but includes all three peaks of the Soběnovská vrchovina.

In addition, the “Climb to the peaks of the Hen Mountains” excursion leads from Klení over unpaved paths to the peaks of the Slepičí hory. The two routes differ in that unpaved paths are specified for the excursion, while “Drůbeží trasa” leads to all three peaks. Thus, the landscape around Klení offers a marked hiking trail, a geocaching route and an excursion along unpaved paths side by side.

Water and Forest as Additional Facets

Klenský Pond is associated with a summer stay in Klení. In addition to the trails and peaks, this adds a body of water as a distinct landscape feature.

Valuable mixed scree forests grow on the eastern slopes of Vysoký kámen. The wooded slopes complement the summit routes and Klenský Pond with another specific aspect of the landscape around Klení.
