Village Square and Historical Details

The village landscape of Mezholezy features remarkable details on the farmhouses. The façade details include the initials of former owners as well as window surrounds with diamond and envelope decoration. The initials recall former farm owners, while the ornamental motifs shape the design of the windows. The farmhouses thus combine personal traces with a clearly recognisable decorative visual language. The façade details deserve a closer look because they not only determine the appearance of the houses, but are also connected with the earlier history of the village.

On the opposite side of the village square, a Baroque wayside shrine stands by the road. The Neo-Gothic Pozdvišení sv. Kříže Chapel is also located on the village square. It is mentioned in the village as early as the 18th century and was rededicated in 1895. The wayside shrine and the chapel therefore belong to the same part of the village, but differ significantly in style, form and impact: here, a small Baroque roadside monument stands alongside a Neo-Gothic religious building on the village square.

Sedmihoří and the Geological Site

The wooded slopes of Sedmihoří provide Mezholezy with its landscape setting. In addition, the Sedmihorský peň geological area includes the cadastral territory of Mezholezy u Horšovského Týna. The Sedmihorský peň geological site is freely accessible; by car, you can approach to within 250 metres of it. The access road therefore does not reach the geological point itself. The distance of 250 metres describes the possible approach by car, not direct access to the site.

Mezholezský rybník

Mezholezský rybník is located near Mezholezy and covers 38 hectares. With this area, it forms a different spatial focus from the concentrated architectural and religious monuments on the village square. The pond was originally fed by streams from the mountains and served as an important water feature. Today, swimming and limited recreational use are possible at Mezholezský rybník. This creates a different focus for your travel decision than a purely culture-oriented stay: you can combine the local architectural and religious monuments with time spent beside a larger body of water, without conflating the two themes.
