Loreta in Bor was founded in 1668 by Isabella von Götzen, née Trčková z Lípy, and her husband Zikmund Bedřich von Götzen. At its centre is the so-called Holy House, surrounded by four wings of vaulted cloisters. This distinctive complex forms an independent focal point within the town’s history. Another historic building is the Church of St Nicholas. The Baroque building was constructed between 1737 and 1746 and has a Gothic tower. In the northern part of Bor, a fragment of the town wall has been preserved, recalling the town’s former fortifications.

Bor Castle and Its Romantic Character

Bor Castle was shaped by a comprehensive Romantic reconstruction in the first third of the 19th century. Restored Renaissance paintings have been preserved in the castle chapel of St Lawrence. The complex’s cultural heritage is presented to the public during guided tours. Bor Castle Park was created around the second half of the 18th century. It is designed as a landscape park with Romantic elements and features seven stations. A naturalistic landscape park covering just under 40 hectares lies on the southern outskirts of Bor. It consists of groups and larger stands of old trees separated by meadows. Compared with the castle park, the focus here is on a naturalistic design with old trees and open meadows. Bor as a Starting Point for Cycling and Road Connections

Cycle route 2207 leads directly to Bor and runs via Borovany, Bor, Lužná, Labuť, the former Bohuslav, Hošťka and the former Nová Knížecí Huť. The historical names remain part of the route. Bor is also located on the E50 road connecting Plzeň–Stříbro–Bor–Rozvadov.
