Strážná between viewpoints and cycling routes

Strážná lies on the border between the Orlické Mountains and the Zábřežská vrchovina at an elevation of around 600 m. The village combines a distinctive landscape with cycling routes and its own small-scale history. The Lázek hill and its observation tower are particularly prominent: from there, the view extends eastwards towards the Zábřežská vrchovina and the Jeseníky Mountains, and westwards as far as the town of Lanškroun. The combination of elevation, the edge of the mountains and expansive distant views gives the village a clearly defined landscape setting: at Lázek, the distant views to the east meet the western vista towards Lanškroun.

This view is an important reason why many cyclists and hikers come to Strážná. Those wishing to combine an active stay with experiencing the landscape will therefore find various options here, without the village being limited to just one type of trip. The extensive forests around Strážná are also part of the landscape and are suitable for mushroom picking.

Cycling for different levels of ability

One specific option is the Strážná–Hoštejn–Cotkytle–Lázek–Strážná cycling loop. It is 30.5 km long and has an elevation gain of 394 m. This makes it possible to experience the area on a clearly defined circuit, with Strážná serving as both the starting point and the destination. The sequence of the loop includes three other fixed points along the route: Hoštejn, Cotkytle and Lázek; after this section, it leads back to Strážná.

The Štíty–Strážná–Lanškroun–Valteřice–Štíty cycling route also passes through Strážná. The village is additionally part of cycling routes for more experienced cyclists. For trip planning, this creates a clear distinction between a single loop and longer routes: depending on how you want to spend the day, you can choose a precisely defined route or include Strážná in a longer cycling connection.

Church, Linden Trees and Local History

The Church of Saint Isidore is also part of Strážná's character and is regarded as the village's central landmark. It was completely rebuilt in 1921. The history of the village goes back further, however: Strážná was mentioned as a parish village in 1350 and again in 1492. The first written mention dates from 1350 and is connected with the founding of the Diocese of Litomyšl in 1344. The village therefore combines a church that defines it today with a documented history reaching back to the 14th century.

Two large linden trees grow in the village centre. The larger of them has a circumference of 720 cm and is estimated to be around 300 years old. A chapel is also one of Strážná's important buildings. The attractions also include a paratrooper memorial. A walk around the village can thus combine impressions of the landscape, notable trees and historic buildings.
