Protected Landscape at Střemošická stráň

Střemošická stráň is one of the most important botanical and entomological sites in Bohemia. At the same time, it is the only location of the lady's-slipper orchid in the Chrudim District. The Natura 2000 site protects dry semi-natural grasslands, shrub habitats and extensively mown lowland and hilly meadows on calcareous subsoil. This gives your trip a clear focus on nature: its importance lies not only in the beautiful view, but in the specifically protected habitats and their plant and insect life.

Historical Traces and Village Culture

North of Bílý Kůň lies Žižkův stůl, a well-preserved medieval fortification with a round mound and a wet moat. About 200 metres beyond the last houses of Bílý Kůň, a path branches off to this site. In the village itself, a St. Wenceslas Chapel with a bell tower stands on the village square. There is also a wayside shrine and a chapel there. In addition to the landscape, these destinations give an excursion a historical and local dimension, without limiting you to a single sight.

Hiking and Cycling around Střemošice

Several marked connections are available for planning your day. The blue-marked hiking route runs from the starting point at Bílý Kůň via Střemošice, Řepníky, Pustina, Zádolí, Brteč and Vanice to Vysoké Mýto. A red-marked hiking route through the Údolí Krounky a Novohradky Nature Park also passes through Bílý Kůň. Local cycling routes run through Střemošice along lightly trafficked Class III roads and paved paths. If you are travelling with children and want to combine different interests, you can therefore choose between nature, local history, hiking and cycling as different ideas for a day, without assuming any particular activity.

Views and Living Traditions

Poklona offers an exceptional view of Novohradsko, Prosečsko, Skutečsko, Lužsko and the Železné hory mountain range. The culture of Střemošice can also be experienced through individual events and customs: “Velikonoční věneček” was among the traditional cultural events regularly held in the village during the period 2021–2025. In addition, a folk custom with a history of more than 120 years is maintained annually in Střemošice. It was included in the list of the intangible traditional and folk cultural heritage of the Pardubice Region.
