Zdětín combines vibrant customs, a multifaceted local history and a location at the transition between Haná and the Drahanská vrchovina. Particularly characteristic are the Chapel of St. Anne on the village green, the Bílovický hrad archaeological site and the visitor area at Bělecký Mlýn.

Local History and Living Traditions

The Chapel of St. Anne on the village green in Zdětín was built in 1843 for 1,200 gulden. It is therefore a tangible anchor for exploring the history of the village. Another tradition continues to shape the course of the year: the three-day Easter custom known as Hrkání, Klepání or Řehtání remains alive in Zdětín from Maundy Thursday to Holy Saturday. The different names refer to the same inherited custom and show that local history lives on not only in buildings but also in recurring traditions.

The older history of the area also includes the Haltýř well. It was formerly part of the manorial estate of Zdětín. Nearby, northeast of the village on Bílá hora, lies the protected area of the Na Hůrkách nature reserve. Thus, besides historical themes, the surroundings also offer a connection with nature, without suggesting that the two areas provide the same experience.

Bílovický hrad: Archaeology Spanning Long Periods

The Bílovický hrad archaeological site lies in the cadastral territory of Zdětín, above a small disused quarry. Its origins date back to the Late Neolithic, which is dated here to 4,000–2,500 BC. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Bílovický hrad was also used as a fortified aristocratic residence. For visitors interested in history, this creates an unusually broad perspective across time: the site connects prehistoric traces with its later use as a fortified aristocratic residence.

A marked local cycle route runs through Zdětín. Together with its location between Haná and the Drahanská vrchovina, this provides an additional way to experience the village rather than viewing it solely through individual historical sites.

Bělecký Mlýn and Today’s Visitor Area

The well-maintained Studánka Bělinka spring is located at Bělecký Mlýn, not far from the main road. The history of the mill site also reaches further back: after Bělecký Mlýn burned down in 1928, a leisure centre was built on the site the following year. Today, the Bělecký Mlýn visitor area is open year-round. It includes a children’s playground, a workout area, an enclosure with Cameroon goats and a bird aviary. This makes it possible to include historical connections and a range of activities in the surrounding area when planning a trip.

Local Festivals and Further Ideas for Exploring the Village

The region’s festival culture is also part of the picture of Zdětín. Martinské hody is associated with a tasting of slivovitz and other spirits. If you are looking for accommodation, you can therefore consider whether your stay should focus primarily on historical sites, natural attractions, cycling, the year-round visitor area or local traditions. For further orientation within the same broader area, you can also find Klopotovice, Horní Štěpánov, Olšany U Prostějova, Pivín, Ondratice, Bílovice-Lutotín, Pěnčín and Skřípov.
