Stražisko lies in a narrow valley of the Romže River, which winds its way here between the peaks of the Drahany Highlands. The most prominent hill near Stražisko rises to 385 metres directly above the Romže and the road running alongside it. Historic buildings, a varied Stations of the Cross, the Romže Cycle Path and a traditional outdoor swimming pool give the town several distinct facets.

Cultural Monuments and Traces of History

The Church of the Guardian Angels was built in 1728 in the centre of Stražisko on the site of the former Grünberg Castle. The church and the Stations of the Cross are protected as immovable cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. The Stations of the Cross themselves were created in 1854, making them one of the town’s particularly clearly dateable historic sights.

Their layout is unusually detailed: the Stations of the Cross consist of 14 larger brick niche chapels with pictures painted on sheet metal. The pictures were created by the Prostějov painter Josef Vyjídáček, who worked as a bricklayer by profession. A Lourdes grotto was added to the Stations of the Cross in 1895. Visitors interested in religious art, regional history and individual architectural forms can trace several eras in one place.

In the Růžov district, the Chapel of Saint Gotthard stands in the centre of the district. It is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Part of the moat and rampart, along with small fragments of the masonry of the outer bailey, remain from Grünberg Castle. Stražisko is also home to the Zátiší villa colony and other Art Nouveau villas. The surviving buildings, richly decorated with carvings, date from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Cycling, Walking and the Outdoor Swimming Pool

The Romže Cycle Path was completed in 2025 and connects Konice with Stražisko. From Stražisko, it continues via Ptenský Dvorek, Ptení, Bělecký Mlýn and Kostelec na Hané to Prostějov. The cycle path improves access to Stražisko for cyclists and walkers. By connecting several towns, it opens up different excursion options without any single attraction having to be the main focus.

Another facet of the town is its outdoor swimming pool. It was built in 1973 with a 50-metre pool and completely reconstructed in 2011. Sporting events take place on the swimming pool grounds. In Stražisko, therefore, water, exercise and local events are available as different themes for travel planning alongside the historic sights.

Railway Line and Local Tradition

Stražisko railway station is located on railway line 306 between Prostějov and Dzbel. The Hody celebrations are part of the local tradition. One component of these festivities is a Hody exhibition prepared by the women of Stražisko. The landscape, architectural history, cycle path, railway line and customs together create a picture of the town that can be explored through individual discoveries as well as through a range of thematic interests.

If you would like to compare more places for your research, you can also find Vitčice, Určice, Bousín, Myslejovice, Vrchoslavice, Malé Hradisko, Hluchov and Dzbel.
