Plumlov between Castle History and a Waterside Landscape

Plumlov combines historic castle heritage with varied routes along the pond and reservoir. The focal point is Plumlov Castle, a registered cultural monument of the Czech Republic under registration number 37405/7–5689. This makes it a destination where you can combine a cultural visit with walks, a cycling tour and experiences by the water.

The remains of the former Plumlov Castle preserved in today's castle courtyard include a rocky hill, minor sections of walls, cellars, a vaulted castle well and the remains of a cylindrical keep. These traces make the site's earlier history directly visible at the castle. The first sightseeing tour of Plumlov Castle includes the castle and museum exhibition, as well as exhibitions and a guided tour with commentary through the first to third floors of the castle.

Another place to learn about the local history is the Plumlov Tourist Information Centre. It has a permanent exhibition on the history of the castle, the chateau and the town of Plumlov. This means the cultural perspective extends beyond the castle's rooms and surviving traces to the history of the town.

Okolo Obory Circular Trail at Podhradský Pond

The Okolo Obory circular trail is a 5 km hiking route with a walking time of about 1.5 hours. You can start at the Žralok campsite or at the main outlet structure of Podhradský Pond, 100 metres away. The route follows a red-marked hiking trail around the pond towards the neighbouring village of Soběsuky. The clear information about the distance and walking time helps you fit this trip appropriately into your day's plans.

Cycling and Beaches at the Plumlov Reservoir

The Okolo přehrady circular route offers another perspective: it can also be completed by bicycle in the opposite direction. The route leads from the outlet structure of Podhradský Pond towards Mostkovice, along the area between the reservoir and the wooded Zlechovský vrch, then continues across the dam and returns over the dam of Podhradský Pond. Shoreline, wooded slope and dams alternate within the same circuit. Travelling in the opposite direction provides a different sequence of these route sections.

There are beaches on both shores of the Plumlov Reservoir. The grassy beach on the southern shore of the Plumlov Reservoir also has a watercraft rental service. This allows you to combine culture, activity and time by the water in different daily itineraries without losing sight of the castle and local history.
