Lichnov U Bruntálu – Local History and Cycle Route 6165

Lichnov U Bruntálu is best explored through the combination of local history, distinctive sacred architecture, and a clearly described cycle route. An important cultural landmark is Dubnice: here, a historic village center, the Hájnický potok stream, and the filial Church of St. Anthony of Padua come together. The Hájnický potok flows through Dubnice and divides the built-up area into two parts. The Church of St. Anthony of Padua

The filial Church of St. Anthony of Padua in Dubnice is a valuable Empire-style sacred building dating from 1822–1823. Together with the surrounding wall, it forms a landmark of the village. Restoration of the church was completed in October 2025. This makes the church one of the more recently documented points of reference for exploring Dubnice: it connects 19th-century architectural history with a clearly recognizable local landmark.

A Village with Medieval Traces

The history of Dubnice extends considerably further back than the construction of the church. The village is already mentioned in a document from 1289 as the property of Beneš of Branice and Lobenštejn. A later connection to the Lichnov family is documented for 1409: Markéta, the daughter of Petr of Lichnov, received Dubnice from her husband Jindřich Čelma of Brantice as a dowry.

The ground beneath the village is also part of its history. The medieval and modern-era core of Dubnice is registered as a Category ÚAN II archaeological area. Archaeological finds have been documented or can reasonably be expected in this area. For your visit, this adds another historical dimension alongside the visible buildings: the village is interesting not only because of individual dates, but also because of the traces lying beneath and between its present-day buildings.

Cycling through Dubnice

Cycle route No. 6165 runs from Zátor through Dubnice, Býkov-Láryšov, and Úvalno to the Úvalno/Branice border crossing. In the opposite direction, the 14.4 km-long route runs via Úvalno, Býkov-Láryšov, Dubnice, and Zátor.

The Village Structure as a Guide

The built-up area of Dubnice is concentrated along a local road and Road III/4595 (Dubnice–Býkov–Láryšov) over a length of 1 km. The buildings are therefore concentrated in a compact area along two roads, while the 14.4 km-long cycle route connects Dubnice with several localities and continues to the Úvalno/Branice border crossing.
