Staré Heřminovy – Valley, History and Cycle Route 6164
Staré HeÅ™minovy shows within a small area how landscape, local history and regional everyday culture belong together. The village lies in the NÃzký JesenÃk, with houses arranged in two rows on either side of the Stará Voda stream in a sunny valley. This makes it a destination that is interesting not only for individual sights, but also for its settlement structure and history.
Landscape and cycling around Staré Heřminovy
The Stará Voda stream flows through Staré Heřminovy and, together with the valley, shapes the immediate character of the village. If you would like to experience a landscape not only from a distance but also by actively travelling through it, cycle route 6164 offers a specific opportunity: it passes through Staré Heřminovy and runs for 29 km from Leskovec nad Moravicà to Holasovice.
A local history with several distinctive chapters
Staré Heřminovy was founded in 1253 and was one of the monastery villages established in the area around Benešov. The village’s subsequent history was shaped by a profound turning point: after the village was burned down in 1474, the destroyed settlement was rebuilt around 1521 by settlers from Silesia and Brandenburg. This sequence makes the village’s past tangible as a historical development rather than reducing it to a single founding date.
Smaller landmarks also add to this historical picture. A war memorial erected in 1920 stands by the cemetery wall in a small park in the village. The Church of Saint Wenceslas has a still-functioning tower clock dating from 1885. The Czechs Chapel also stands in the village. The historic Sandlerův mlýn mill stood at a crossroads of district roads; later, the younger son Fritz had a water turbine built there.
Village centre and regional orientation
In the centre of Staré Heřminovy, in front of the cultural centre, there are a bus stop, a grocery store, the municipal office, the church, the fire station and an inn. This is the most specifically described reference point in the village for choosing a suitable location. When continuing your accommodation search, you can therefore distinguish between orienting yourself around the village centre and staying with a stronger focus on the landscape and cycle route, without having to assume any particular facilities or availability for individual accommodations.
The cultural and social life of Staré Heřminovy includes a competition for young firefighters. It complements the historic buildings, chapels and memorial sites with an insight into events in the village.
