Mrklov: Cycling Routes and Traditional Architecture

Mrklov combines village history with a variety of opportunities for cyclists and visitors who want to explore the village on foot in summer. Traditional architecture of the Krkonoše Mountains, historical changes, and several cycling routes shape the different facets of the village.

Village History and Landscape Experiences

Like Dolní Štěpanice, Mrklov was settled along the water and was predominantly an agricultural village. Some valuable elements of the traditional architecture of the Krkonoše Mountains have survived to this day. These include log cabins built into the slopes with low dormer windows.

KRNAP Cycling Route 10 leads from Horní Štěpanice via Mrklov and Křížovky towards Vrchlabí. Another connection leads from Vrchlabí to Vítkovice on asphalt and paved paths and is also suitable for family outings with children. “Mrklovské kolečko II” also begins and ends in Mrklov. The moderately difficult loop is approximately 32 km long and includes around 1,162 metres of elevation gain. Its route leads via Křížovky, Benecko, and Rovinka to Vítkovice and Rezek, then returns to Mrklov via Benecko. The length, elevation gain, and defined sequence of destinations provide a clear basis when choosing between a moderate loop and more challenging climbs.
