Levínská Olešnice – Valley, History and Hrad Levín

Levínská Olešnice combines a distinctive valley setting with notable traces of history. The village lies in an elongated valley on both sides of the Oleška stream. To the north, the valley is bordered by the hills of Hradiště and Zakopanice, and to the south by the Staropacké hory. Those wishing to combine nature, local history and a manageable hike will find several different starting points here for planning their trip.

Between the Oleška Valley and the Staropacké hory

Hrad Levín is a distinctive historical landmark. The castle complex stood on a wooded rocky spur of the Staropacké hory ridge. It is believed to have originated at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries; it may have been established by a member of the Načeraticen family. A red-marked hiking trail leads to Hrad Levín. At the restored Hradiště Levín, there is also an information board and simple seating by a fire pit.

The surrounding area also offers a specific option for an excursion with a clear thematic focus: The route from Nová Paka to Levín is described as an easy, 13-kilometre trail focused on geology and history. This makes it possible to discover the landscape not only as a backdrop, but also through its geological and historical connections.

Churches, Sculptures and Monuments in the Village

The Church of All Saints has been mentioned since the 14th century and was enlarged in 1833. It includes an ensemble of twelve statues, a statue of the Holy Trinity and a cross. These elements give the village a distinctly historic character, without limiting a visit to a single building.

Another sight is located in the centre of Levínská Olešnice: The sandstone group of the Holy Trinity stands on the left side of the road towards Vrchovina. It was created by Josef Kuhn in 1890 and has a richly detailed Neo-style pedestal. The group also bears a carved inscription from 1896. The sculptures in Levínská Olešnice are among the municipality’s cultural monuments.

Guidance for Choosing Your Place to Stay

For travelling to and finding your way around the area, the Levínská Olešnice railway halt is a useful reference point: It is located about 200 metres from the village centre. A signpost for tourist trails is situated nearby. From there, you can reach nearby Hrad Levín or the Oleška Valley. Those looking for accommodation in Levínská Olešnice can therefore take into account the location in relation to the village centre, the railway halt and the described excursion destinations when making their selection, without combining the different sights into a single circular route.
