Polubný between Church, Railway and Winter Landscape

Polubný in the Czech Republic is a destination for travelers who do not want to limit their stay to a single theme. When choosing where to stay, it is worth considering the local history, railway line and nearby destinations separately. If you visit the church, you can distinguish between the building itself, a religious service and a concert; classical and sacred music each create a different atmosphere.

Baroque Church and Local History

The Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in Horní Polubný was built between 1789 and 1793. Religious services and cultural events, particularly concerts of classical and sacred music, are held regularly in the church. The historic building is therefore also a cultural venue that remains in active use.

The church can be reached by bus to the Horní Polubný stop. Alternatively, you can travel by train to Kořenov and then continue on foot or by car. There are therefore two different arrival points to choose from: Horní Polubný by bus, or Kořenov followed by a walk or a car journey. The history of Polubný also includes the lives of its inhabitants in the 19th century: among other things, they earned their livelihoods through forestry work, spinning, weaving, glassblowing and glass pressing, as well as the production of potash. Spinning and weaving represent textile work, while glassblowing and glass pressing involved glass processing; the production of potash complements this area of craftsmanship.

Cog Railway as a Focus of Industrial History

The Tanvald–Kořenov cog railway is the steepest railway line in the Czech Republic. On the section between Dolní Polubný and Kořenov, the maximum gradient is 58 per mille. In 1992, the line was declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It is therefore a notable point of interest when both the landscape and railway and regional history are of interest for your trip.

Cross-Country Ski Trails, Ski Lift and the Route to Jizerka

The Jizerský kopec ski lift is located in Horní Polubný on the left-hand side of the road toward Kořenov, about 50 meters above the road. For cross-country skiing, two groomed trails run from Kořenov to Jizerka. One of them passes through Horní Polubný, and the trails connect to the Jizerská magistrála. There is one clear special feature concerning travel to Jizerka: by car, Jizerka can be reached exclusively from Horní Polubný.

Mountains and Castles in the Wider Area

The nearby area around Polubný includes Zámky, Slezské Kamení, Hvězda and Mariánská hora; all four destinations are mountains. The wider region also contains several historic destinations: Zamek Chojnik and Zamek Gryf are castles, as is Czocha - Zamek XIVw. Spalona Strażnica is a ruin. This allows you to choose between different focuses when selecting a location – from nearby mountain landscapes to regional cultural attractions.
