Discover Miltigau: Culture, Nature and Milíkov

Miltigau appeals to travellers who want to discover both landscapes and history during their stay. In and around Milíkov, different themes take centre stage: a half-timbered farmstead, a farm museum, a late Neoclassical church and protected natural areas. Cultural discoveries can thus be combined with a walk and insights into regional traditions.

Half-timbered farmstead and rural history

The Cheb-type half-timbered farmstead in Milíkov is open to the tourist public with restricted operations. In the farm museum there, you can see rural furnishings, household, craft and agricultural tools, as well as smaller agricultural machines. The collection spans from the second half of the 19th century to the present day, making various phases of peasant life visible.

The farm's exhibition also documents its changing use. It tells of the agricultural complex as an independent residential and economic unit until 1945, the changes resulting from the expulsion of the original inhabitants and its later use as a residence until the end of their lives. The complex was subsequently used as a recreational property for the popular practice of spending holidays in the countryside. This historical arc gives the visit more depth than merely viewing the buildings and equipment.

Church and protected landscape

The Church of “kostel sv. Šimona a Judy” in Milíkov is a single-nave late Neoclassical church with a square presbytery and a prismatic western tower. Its present appearance was shaped by renovations carried out between 1818 and 1820. The architecture and local history form an independent cultural focus here.

Milíkov lies on the southwestern edge of the Slavkovský les. Part of the municipality of Milíkov lies within the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area; this includes Zones II and III in forested areas and Zone IV in built-up areas. The natural area also includes the Těšovské pastviny Nature Monument, which consists of two parts within the municipality of Milíkov.

Walking and observing nature

An easy walking trail, approximately 3 km long in total, leads from Milíkov to the nearby Milíkovská pískovna and then to the ponds behind the village in the direction of Těšov. The route enters a wetland. It offers a practical opportunity to explore the surrounding area on foot without leaving the village's cultural starting point behind.

Amphibian and reptile catching, explanatory talks and demonstrations take place in the pond system of Milíkovská pískovna. This natural site therefore complements the walk with a particularly vivid introduction to the region's animals and habitats.

Traditions and geographical orientation

Events also reflect Milíkov's rural character. The traditional walking event “Kynšperská jarní patnáctka” follows a route to the half-timbered farmstead No. 18 in Milíkov. At the traditional Milíkovské dožínky harvest festival, you can try out old agricultural tasks yourself.

For orienting yourself geographically during your stay, it is also useful to know that Milíkov lies approximately 3 km from the main road between Cheb and Mariánské Lázně. This makes it possible to take the village's location into account specifically when planning the rest of your journey.
