Those who choose Vilantice as a travel destination discover an area where cycle routes and remarkable traces of culture come together to form a varied travel experience. Chotěborky is particularly impressive: the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dominates the small village of Chotěborky on a hill. There are also historical details, a viewpoint with wide-ranging views and two cycle paths with different routes. This allows you to spend your days combining local history, music, scenery and active travel.

Church and Local History in Chotěborky

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the most important architectural monument in Chotěborky. Its preserved southern Gothic portal dates from the first half of the 14th century and makes the church’s long history immediately visible. The bell tower also contains a smaller death bell. It was donated in July 1928 by the couple Holan from Hustířany – a specific detail that connects the historic site with a later local memory.

The history goes back even further: the settlement of Chotěbořice, which was important in the Middle Ages, disappeared; only the church complex remains. In the middle of the village square there is also a column dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. It probably dates from 1730 and may have been created by Matyáš Braun or his workshop. These cautious historical attributions are part of the monument’s character and should not be confused with confirmed authorship.

Another cultural trace is the birthplace of František Xaver Dušek. The building is a Neoclassical solid construction with stucco decoration on the façade. Together with the church, the church complex and the column, Chotěborky is not merely a collection of individual sights, but a place where different eras can be read in specific buildings and monuments.

Cycle Paths with Different Destinations

For active travel planning, cycle path 4085 passes through Vilantice. The route runs from Žireč near Dvůr Králové via Dubenec, Vilantice, Velký Vřešťov, Hořice, Holovousy and Libín to Konecchlumí. Those considering this route can place Vilantice within a longer connection through several towns and villages instead of limiting their stay to a single destination.

Cycle path 4116 has a different focus. It runs from Chotěborky via Hustířany, Velichovky, Litič and Zaloňovna to Kuks. The two routes therefore begin or run in different places and offer different opportunities for incorporating cultural destinations into your daily itinerary.

Views, Nature and Music

The Kříž u Chotěborek viewpoint is located near a crucifix and offers views of Zvičina, Podkrkonoší, the Orlické Mountains and Kunětická hora. Alongside the historic buildings, this provides a landscape viewpoint with specific destinations visible in the distance. The lady’s-slipper orchid (Cypripedium calceolus) is also designated as a protected subject of Hustířanský les. This information describes the special protection status of this natural feature, not automatically a specific opportunity for visiting or viewing it.

Music is also part of the area’s cultural profile. The Hudební léto Chotěborky festival offers concerts in historic churches in Chotěborky and Dubenec. The 32nd edition of the festival will take place in 2026; it is dedicated to Baroque and classical music.
