Suchovršice between the Úpa Valley and Cultural History

In 1923, the municipality restored the bell tower: the wooden structure was reinforced, new cladding was installed and shingles were added. Its old-world character was preserved in the process.

The bridges also form a distinctive part of the village’s character. The covered wooden truss bridge in Suchovršice is a technical monument dating from 1922. There is also a wooden footbridge dating from 1935. This creates a focal point of cultural history for visitors that can be directly combined with walks along the river and through the landscape.

Exploring on Foot and by Bicycle

The Úpa can be crossed by bridge at five locations in Suchovršice. Suchovršice can also be crossed by bicycle; a blue-marked section of cycle route 4090 runs through the village. If you like to combine your excursions with a specific destination, an educational trail leads from the footbridge near Lhotách to the “Zlatá jáma” site.

Traces are still preserved at Zlatá jáma that are associated with the supposedly first gold mine in Central Europe. The cautious historical classification is part of the character of the site: it concerns preserved traces and a traditional association, not a further substantiated claim. Stříbrný důl is currently the only accessible evidence of medieval mining in the region. An application has been submitted for its inclusion in the central register of immovable cultural monuments.
