Historical heritage along the Starobucký Stream

The historic settlement of Staré Buky stretches across Dolní Staré Buky, Prostřední Staré Buky and Horní Staré Buky on both banks of the Starobucký Stream. It is approximately five kilometres long. For you, this means a local history spread across several settlement areas and closely linked to prominent buildings and places of remembrance.

At the centre is Kostel sv. Anny, the only registered cultural monument in Staré Buky. Its documented history dates back to 1355; in 1360, a consecration or dedication of the church building is mentioned, possibly to the Virgin Mary. The present building was constructed in 1692 by Baron de Waggi, expanded in 1755 by Count Wilibald von Schafgotsch, and received a presbytery in 1802, a manor crypt in 1804 and a church tower in 1836.

You can discover remarkable details on the exterior wall: seven tombstones are set into it, the oldest dating from the 14th century. The furnishings also include an illusionistically painted tracery window and almost completely preserved medieval trowelled plaster with four concentric red circles. Around 2006/2007, Kostel sv. Anny was transferred into the ownership of the municipality of Staré Buky; safeguarding work began immediately afterwards.

Further evidence of the local history can be found in various places. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk was created in 1715 and, after its restoration, was reinstalled at the beginning of the avenue by the Staré Buky municipal office. Staré Buky is also home to a two-storey pseudo-Gothic chateau from the late 19th century, near the original site of the manor residence. The monument to the victims of the First World War in the park in front of the former school building dates from 1921.

Leisure Area, Viewpoint and Mountains

At a cascade of ponds, you can swim, play mini-golf, tennis and volleyball, and take cycling trips in the surrounding area. From a viewpoint in Staré Buky, you can look across the Dolce leisure area towards the Krkonoše Mountains. The described excursion route is connected to a blue-marked hiking trail.

The mountains of Jański Wierch and Černá hora are located in the vicinity of Staré Buky. The wider regional area also includes Kobyla Góra and Mrowiniec. Other documented destinations include Lázně, a church, Spalona Stražnica, a ruin, and Opactwo Cysterskie w Krzeszowie, a monastery.
