Petříkovice between the Educational Trail, Fortifications and Janský vrch

Landscape around Janský vrch

Janský vrch rises 697 metres above the source. The Czech–Polish border runs over it, accompanied there by an educational trail. A notable viewpoint is Krausova vyhlídka, a cliff-top viewpoint on Janský vrch. Beneath the rocks near the Polish state border, there is also a reconstructed spring with healing water. The Chvaleč–Petříkovice educational trail is suitable for a manageable hike. The circular route is approximately 6 kilometres long, leads from Petříkovice via several interesting places back to Petříkovice and has several stations with information boards. It starts at the car park by the swimming pool in Petříkovice. This makes it easy to combine the route with a stay in the village, without needing to travel to another starting point to begin the loop.

Fortifications and Local History

Petříkovice was first mentioned in writing in 1012. A historic line of fortifications from 1937 to 1938 runs through the village; several of its structures are gradually being renovated as open-air museums. The easternmost structure in the Petříkovice section is T-S 52b “Na skále”. The structure is badly damaged, and its unchanged condition since the end of the war illustrates the effect of explosives on a massive fortification. The T-S 54 “Nad dráhou” infantry bunker was structurally completed in the area of the Petříkovice defensive barrier; work on the electrical installation was begun. Another historic landmark is the monument to František Opočenský, erected after the war. It was ceremonially unveiled on 28 September 1946 and stands on the left side of the road towards Radvanice. The Chapel of the Holy Family is also part of the local history. It dates from 1847 and was restored between 1990 and 2004. The chapel is one of the sights in Petříkovice and complements the military-historical sites with a sacred building.

Cycling, Swimming and Skiing

The Okrzeszyn–Petříkovice border crossing is intended for pedestrians and cyclists and is open all day. Cycle Route 1 leads downhill via this border crossing to the swimming pool in Petříkovice, a district of the municipality of Chvaleč. The swimming pool grounds are located in the central part of the village. There is a fire-water reservoir suitable for swimming, toilets, an outdoor shower, refreshments and a car park. Swimming is at your own risk. At the Petříkovice ski resort, you can expect well-groomed downhill slopes and family-friendly skiing. Every day, a ski school and a small lift for children and complete beginners are in operation.
