Olešnice v Orlických horách – Hiking, Culture and Winter Sports

Olešnice v Orlických horách between landscapes and history

Olešnice v Orlických horách combines marked trails, sweeping views and regional culture with options for different travel ideas. A lookout tower, the Jiráskova cesta long-distance trail, a museum, a geological educational trail and the Hartman Olešnice Ski Resort provide many concrete starting points for planning. You can combine nature experiences, local history and winter sports without committing to just one season or one type of excursion.

Hiking trails and views over the mountains

A marked green hiking trail leads from the square in Olešnice v Orlických horách to the lookout tower on Feistův kopec. It offers the shortest and easiest access to the tower and is also suitable for strollers. The lookout tower is 1 kilometre from the town centre and offers views of the Orlické hory, the Krkonoše Mountains, Broumovsko and the Polish Stolové hory.

The red-marked Jiráskova cesta provides longer route connections. The long-distance trail passes through Olešnice v Orlických horách and is 100 kilometres long in total. At Zelené údolí near Olešnice, it reaches the Orlické hory Protected Landscape Area, CHKO Orlické hory, and from there climbs to the lookout tower on Vrchmezí. A blue-marked hiking trail also leads to Sedloňovský vrch. The Feistův kopec geological educational trail comprises nine stations and passes through a particularly distinctive geomorphological landscape.

Regional culture in the town

The museum in Olešnice v Orlických horách displays historical objects and furniture from the local region. After the exhibited objects were restored and the collection was moved to new premises, the exhibition opened to visitors in 2004. A special local attraction is Utzův betlém: it was reassembled, made functional and opened to the public at the town hall of Olešnice v Orlických horách on 30 April 2000. Its drive system includes a metal transmission shaft ending in a wooden pulley.

The grounds of the Church of St Mary Magdalene are also part of the cultural offering. They contain the protected sculptural ensemble Svatého Příbuzenstva. In addition to landscapes and activities, restored objects, regional furniture and sacred art are therefore available as independent discoveries.

Skiing for different experience levels

The Hartman Olešnice Ski Resort offers a ski and snowboard school for children and beginners and is suitable for children, beginners and intermediate skiers. Its facilities include three daily groomed ski slopes with artificial snowmaking and a combined length of more than 2,000 metres. Night skiing is possible on a floodlit slope measuring 1,100 metres. This allows the winter sports day to be tailored to the skier’s experience level and preferred format.
