Zlíč – Cultural Trails and Chapel in Babiččino údolí

Zlíč between the Memorial Stone, Chapel and Hiking Trails

Zlíč combines cultural history with several trails through Babiččino údolí and the surrounding area. Since 1975, a figurative memorial stone dedicated to Božena Němcová has stood at the entrance to Babiččino údolí, in a park at a crossroads in Zlíč. This gives you different focuses when planning your trip: You can explore the history of the place or compare the hiking and educational trails described here.

Chapel and Religious Traditions

The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Zlíč was built in 1714 at the expense of the local inhabitants. It was preceded by a plague epidemic that severely affected the local population in 1713. In 2002, a new Stations of the Cross with 14 images by Jarmila Zárubová was installed in the chapel. The chapel is associated with three services each year, as well as the Zlíč pilgrimage and the church consecration festival. These are celebrated in September on the Sunday and Monday after September 8. Several historical periods come together at the chapel: the plague epidemic of 1713, the construction of 1714 and the Stations of the Cross installed in 2002.

The combination of the chapel, Stations of the Cross and pilgrimage gives Zlíč a clear religious and local focus. The memorial stone dedicated to Božena Němcová adds to this cultural connection at a prominent point at the entrance to Babiččino údolí.
