Střevač between Cultural Heritage and Landscape
Accommodation in Střevač
Střevač combines protected architectural heritage with a landscape where ridges, the Mordýř pond, wet meadows and the Český ráj UNESCO Geopark meet. If you are looking for a place in Czechia with historical traces and varied natural scenery, you will find several distinct points of interest here: in Střevač itself, in Štidla and Nadslav, and in the eastern part of the municipality.
Baroque Traces in Střevač and Štidla
An important focus is the village heritage zone of Štidla. It was designated by Decree No. 413/2004 Coll. of the Czech Ministry of Culture on 24 June 2004 and has been effective since 1 January 2005. Its historic fabric includes rural farmstead No. 8 in Štidla, a preserved agricultural complex dating from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, with its original structural layout.
Střevač is home to a Baroque granary built in 1690 from stone taken from the original fortress, which was demolished at that time. Another Baroque granary on the southern edge of Střevač is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. On the village square in Štidla, the late Baroque statue of the Crucifixion from 1780 recalls the tradition of religious art; it is considered a cultural monument of regional significance.
Střevač itself is also home to two distinctive monuments dating from 1754: the Baroque column with a statue of the Immaculata and the late Baroque Calvary ensemble opposite the municipal office. Both are protected as cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. The town's historical development goes back further: Střevač was elevated to the status of a městys again in 1896.
Nadslav and the Landscape Between the Ridges
Nadslav is home to the single-nave Gothic Church of Saint Procopius. It includes a cemetery with a stone enclosure and a wooden bell tower from the 19th century; the church has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964. Nadslav thus complements the Baroque heritage of Střevač and Štidla with a significantly older sacred building.
The location of Střevač between two elongated ridges is characteristic of the landscape. The northern ridge, covered with conifers, is crisscrossed by hiking trails. The eastern and northern parts of the municipality of Střevač lie within the Český ráj UNESCO Geopark. Its boundary follows Class II and III roads that run through Střevač, Nadslav and Štidla.
The eastern part of the administrative area also contains the Baroque-designed landscape of Mariánská zahrada. It encompasses the settlements of Střevač, Nadslav and Štidla. The Mordýř pond and the adjacent wet meadows add another natural accent, providing a habitat for fire-bellied toads and other amphibians. The Nadslav Nature Monument also protects the habitat of the critically endangered fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina).
Střevač is served by bus connections and roads running through the municipality.
