Mlýnec combines a Polabian landscape of ponds and forests with protected habitats and traces of a long settlement history. If you would like to combine nature, peaceful paths and interesting discoveries, the area offers several different ways to do so.

Ponds, Forests and Protected Habitats

The surroundings of Mlýnec are shaped by the Polabian landscape, with ponds and forest areas offering good conditions for tourism, recreation and spending time in nature. The forests around Mlýnec attract mushroom pickers and visitors looking for peace and quiet in nature.

Rybník Zrcadlo is located in the eastern part of Mlýnec. The pond is known among locals and visitors for its size and its diverse aquatic life and birdlife. It thus complements the forest landscape with another defining natural feature.

The cadastral area of Mlýnec u Kopidlina lies within the Dymokursko Natura 2000 site of European importance. Dymokursko comprises a very well-preserved complex of deciduous forests, wet meadows and aquatic ecosystems. The protected natural area therefore extends beyond individual ponds and includes various habitats. The cadastral area also lies within the Rožďalovické rybníky bird protection zone, which protects populations and habitats of the western marsh harrier and the common crane. The bird protection area is also an important migration area for waterfowl and birds of prey, with up to 3,000–4,000 individuals.

Routes for Walks and Bike Rides

The local paths are suitable destinations for walks and bike rides. From Mlýnec railway station, a yellow-marked hiking trail leads through the local forests to Bučický rybník. This allows you to explore the forest and pond landscape along a clearly described route. For walks, this route connects the railway station with Bučický rybník; bike rides on the local paths offer another way to experience the forest and pond landscape.

Mlýnec railway station is served by line 061 between Nymburk and Jičín. It is located approximately 650 metres from the village centre and is connected to the village by a paved footpath. The approximately 650 metres and the paved footpath provide a practical connection between the railway service and the village centre.

Cultural History Around Mlýnec

A chapel stands southwest of Mlýnec. The history of the area reaches back even further: the cadastral area of Mlýnec is a polycultural archaeological site with finds ranging from the Linear Pottery culture to the modern era. This chronological span also makes the site interesting for visitors looking for historical connections in addition to nature-related attractions.

Prehistoric, early medieval and high medieval settlement traces have been identified near the Mrlina River in the cadastral areas of Kopidlno and Mlýnec. Nature experiences and cultural history are therefore part of a shared regional context here, without the visit being limited to a single attraction.
