Kyje on the southeastern slope of Tábor

Kyje lies on the southeastern slope of Tábor and combines a distinctive hillside setting with trails, landscapes and notable traces of local history. The upper part of the village offers expansive views across the surrounding countryside. If you would like to combine experiencing nature with discovering the village on your trip, you will find two different approaches here: the route into the landscape around Tábor and a closer look at the village’s historic architectural forms.

Hiking trails with two clearly defined routes

The Golden Trail of the Bohemian Paradise runs between Tábor and Železnice through Kyje. The hiking trail from Kyje to Tábor is marked in red and is also part of the Golden Trail of the Bohemian Paradise. At the trail junction by the Kyje stop, a yellow-marked hiking trail branches off. It bypasses the ascent to the summit of Tábor and follows a contour line. This provides two differently described routes for planning: one route with Tábor as its destination and one variant along the contour line. You can therefore determine the focus of your hike based on the markings and the course of the trail, without assuming a specific distance.

Architectural forms and cultural monuments in the village

Kyje reveals its history through more than just a single building. The crucifix on the village green is listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The farmhouse No. 8 on the southern edge of Kyje is also listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. In addition, there is a niche chapel dating from the second half of the 18th century.

Several timbered houses with carved gables add to this village landscape. The Zajíc farmstead also features a typical gable with the elements used there. For a travel group equally interested in the landscape and history, this creates a range of discoveries side by side: a small religious monument, a farmhouse, a chapel and traditional gable forms. The individual details make Kyje tangible through a variety of architectural forms, without reducing the village to a single attraction.

Geology and transport history

A geological fault between the Bohemian Massif and the rocks of the foothills of the Krkonoše runs through Kyje. This geological detail adds a distinctive geological-historical dimension to the view of the landscape. Kyje railway station is also part of the village’s history: it lies on the Sudoměř–Stará Paka line and was built in 1906.

When looking for accommodation in Kyje, you can take your preferred focus for your days into account. If the routes to Tábor and the landscape are to be the main focus, the hiking trail route is the most important reference point for further planning. If you are more interested in discovering the village, the cultural monuments, chapel, timbered houses and gables offer specific themes for your stay.
