Holín combines the distinctive landscape of the Prachov Rocks with culture, archaeology, and a wide variety of routes through the Český ráj. The entire municipality lies within the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area. The Prachov Rocks were designated a nature reserve in 1933 and shape the choice between nature experiences, historical traces, and excursions with children. Those looking for accommodation in Holín will find a place where several very different travel ideas can be combined.

Rocks, Trails, and Viewpoints

A 5-kilometre educational trail leads through the Prachov Rocks and is not suitable for pushchairs. For families with pushchairs, the Pelíškova dětská naučná stezka is another option: the 1-kilometre circular route runs around the Pelíšek water reservoir and is also suitable for pushchairs. Another accessible tourist route through the Prachov Rocks begins and ends at the Prachov car park in Holín-Prachov.

The Vyhlídka Míru and Vyhlídka Českého ráje viewpoints offer views of the Prachov Rocks, the ruins of Trosky Castle, and Ještěd. The 26.5-kilometre circular route of the Zlatá stezka Českého ráje also places a clear emphasis on movement and landscape. It runs through Jičín, Holín, Prachov, Horní Lochov, Brada, and Kbelnice. Beyond Holín, Čistý Pond, in the direction of the Prachov Rocks, also offers an opportunity for swimming.

Museum, Castles, and Traces of the Past

The Muzeum přírody Český ráj in Holín, Prachov 37, presents a permanent exhibition about the nature and history of the Prachov Rocks, the Český ráj, and the Jičín region. The museum garden includes a small botanical garden, animal enclosures, outdoor terrariums, ponds, an insect hotel, a beetle biotope, and the Pelíšková zahrádka. Every year, the museum organizes the Žabí běh, excursions focused on birdsong, a gathering of amphibian and reptile enthusiasts, and other public programmes.

Hradiště Prachov is designated an immovable archaeological cultural monument. It contains settlement traces dating from the Neolithic and Bronze Age through the La Tène period and the Germanic-Roman period to the early Middle Ages. The remains of Pařez Castle, also known as Husí nůška, lie on the northwestern edge of the Prachov Rocks. Pařez Castle already existed in 1370. Holín also preserves a farmstead with house number 11 dating from 1850 and a statue of the Virgin Mary from 1867.

Cycle Path, Bus, and Climbing Tradition

The Jičín–Holín cycle path connects the western part of Jičín with Holín and can also be used on foot. On the outskirts of Jičín, it passes under Road 35 through an underpass. Bus route 510 from Jičín serves the “Holín, Prachov, Skalní město” stop. From 30 April to 30 September, a seasonal tourist bicycle bus connects Jičín, Holín, the Prachov Rocks, Pařezská Lhota, Mladějov, Sobotka, and Podkost.

Climbing is also part of the history of the Prachov Rocks. The tradition dates back to 1907 and continues there to this day as a living tradition of sandstone climbing. Climbing is permitted only with the consent of the Schlik family, the owners, and in compliance with the applicable operating, climbing, and nature conservation rules.

Holín as a Village and Starting Point

Holín is laid out as a village along a central road. It is lined with rural houses with larger or smaller farm sections, as well as urban-style houses. The villagescape complements the natural and cultural attractions with its own architectural character. For further comparisons with other villages and to search for suitable accommodation, you can also view Kopidlno, Ubislavice, Vršce, Sběř, Sedliště, Sobotka, Chomutice, and Meziluzi.
