Jeřice between a castle monument, river landscape and cycling route

Jeřice brings together several aspects of a stay in the Czech Republic within a compact area: a castle monument with a park, watercourse and bridges, a protected village church, the landscape of the Bystřice Valley and an existing marked cycling route. This makes it possible to discover the town through its culture as well as its waterways and paths. If you would like to combine different interests during your trip, you will find historical details, a specific natural setting and a designated route here, without reducing Jeřice to just one attraction.

Castle complex with an unusual history

The protected castle monument includes the park, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, a watercourse and bridges. The castle complex developed through a complex process from a Gothic fortress on the edge of the settlement. Its history also includes a setback: the castle burned down in 1886 and was restored in the same year.

The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk no longer stands in its original location. It was moved from a nearby bridge to its current location; it stood on the bridge until the 1970s. For a tour of the castle grounds, this provides an additional historical trace, as the connection between the statue, bridge and watercourse remains discernible in the present-day ensemble.

Village church and bell towers

A second cultural highlight is the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene. It is listed as a cultural monument and includes a bell tower. The Gothic village church complex also has a late Baroque gate bell tower. The church thus displays several architectural layers from different periods, which can already be recognized in its layout and the two tower elements. This place may be particularly interesting to you if, alongside the castle, you would like to discover smaller sacred buildings and the historical structure of a Czech village community.

Bystřice Valley, ponds and paths

Jeřice lies in the valley of the Bystřice River. In the cadastral area of the town, there are also a millrace and two ponds in addition to the Bystřice. The waterscape therefore consists not only of a single river course, but of several different bodies of water. This gives the stay a clear connection to the landscape and complements the cultural and historical sites with a quieter side of the town.

For active exploration, marked cycling route 4140 is documented. It leads from Třebnouševes via road III/32522 to Jeřice and is established in the area as an existing marked cycling route. Jeřice also has a rest area on a cycle path. Anyone wishing to explore the town by bicycle will therefore find a specific route indication and a point of orientation, without any need to derive further unverified route or time information from it.

Guidance for choosing where to stay

Local orientation also includes Jeřice railway station on railway line 041 Hradec Králové–Jičín–Turnov. Depending on your priorities, when looking for accommodation you can therefore pay particular attention to the combination of a cultural monument, river landscape or cycling. Another local feature is Jezdecký klub Jeřice, where show jumping is practiced predominantly, with dressage also taking place occasionally.
