Discover Habřina

Habřina combines a diverse cultural landscape with routes leading to historic sites. At its heart is the complex of the Church of St. Wenceslas on Chloumek, complemented by the archaeological sites of Rotemberk and Vražba, a listed bridge, and hiking and cycling connections. St. Wenceslas on Chloumek: Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque

The cemetery Church of St. Wenceslas on Chloumek was originally built as a Gothic structure in the 14th century. At the end of the 16th century, it was remodelled in the Renaissance style before its exterior was given a Baroque makeover in 1702. One individual feature also points to the history of the place: the church contains a marble figural epitaph by J. Bedřich Rodovský of Hustířany, dating from 1594. The entire complex of the Church of St. Wenceslas on Chloumek has been listed as an immovable cultural monument since 1964, together with the bell tower, gravedigger’s house and enclosing wall. For orientation on site, it is also relevant that a network of paths currently runs in the immediate vicinity of the grounds. A blue-marked hiking trail now connects the spa towns of Velichovky with important and historic sites in the surrounding area, including the Rotenberg hillfort. It passes north of Chloumek in the direction of Černožice.

Castle sites in the forest: Vražba and Rotemberk

The Vračba (Vražba) stronghold, whose remains are locally known as Na zámečku, stood on a wooded spur above the left bank of the Hustířanka, less than 1 km from the centre of the present-day municipality of Habřina. The site of Vražba stronghold has an oval ground plan and is surrounded by a rampart and ditch. Another historic trace is the Hrad Neznášov/Rotemberk archaeological site. A relief remnant of the enclosing fortifications and the remains of what was probably a round tower have survived there. The oval core of Rotemberk is surrounded by a ditch; a well is located on its south-eastern side. The site lies on a wooded spur 280 to 300 metres long and 15 to 40 metres wide, on the left bank of the Hustířanský potok, approximately 1.4 km north of the built-up area of Habřina. The differing measurements make it clear that the elongated wooded spur and the oval fortified core must be considered separately here.

Paths, a bridge and smaller historic landmarks

Notable individual monuments can also be found outside the castle sites. A stone single-span bridge over the Hustířanka dates from 1785 and has been protected as a monument since 11 September 1995. At the former mill site in Kouty stands an iron cross over the grave of a Prussian lieutenant. The historic character of the area is thus evident not only in large complexes, but also in structures and memorials along the landscape. For cyclists, cycle paths lead from Habřina to Holohlavy and onwards to the Hradec Králové–Kuks cycle path, which they join at the Elbe. When planning a trip, cultural destinations and longer stretches of route can therefore be given different emphasis: St. Wenceslas on Chloumek represents architectural history, Rotemberk and Vražba fortified sites, and the bridge and cross smaller reminders of the region’s past.
