The history of the settlement dates back to the 14th century. At that time, Vavřinec was founded together with its local church by monks from the Sázava Monastery of Saint Procopius. The Baroque Church of Saint Nicholas, dating from the mid-18th century, is documented as a surviving historic building.

A more recent architectural layer is represented by the Church of Saint Lawrence. It is pseudo-Gothic and was built in 1876–1877 to a design by the architect František Schmoranz. In Vavřinec, it is also listed under number 1204 as an immovable cultural monument. This allows you to compare two different periods of ecclesiastical architecture during a visit: the Baroque of Saint Nicholas Church and the pseudo-Gothic building of the late 19th century.

Another surviving trace of the past is an original granary belonging to the Jesuit order. It stands on the site of a former fortress and complements the churches with a secular historic building. Bodies of Water and Landscape

In the Vavřinec planning area, it is the largest of three large bodies of water. In addition, the Vavřinecký Pond is designated as Regional Biocentre No. 956.
