Bobnice: Riverine Landscape and Local History
Accommodation in Bobnice
Bobnice combines the landscape of the Polabian Lowland with a local history dating back to the early Middle Ages. Floodplain forests, ponds and wetlands are part of the scenery, as are sand terraces in some places. The bell tower on the village square provides a distinctive landmark. This gives you several specific themes to consider when planning your trip: nature, cycling and local history.
Landscape of the Polabian Lowland
Bobnice lies in the Polabian Lowland. Typical floodplain forests, ponds and wetlands shape the landscape. In some places, the landforms give way to belts of sand terraces and windblown sand. The term windblown sand refers to sand that has been moved by the wind; in Bobnice, this landform occurs only in some places. The small Klobuš stream also flows through the municipality. Nature enthusiasts can therefore explore two distinct features: the wetlands and the sand formations found in some places.
Historical milestones
Archaeological finds indicate that Bobnice was settled by the 11th century at the latest. Two written records from 1363 document the existence of Bobnice. The early indication of settlement and the records from 1363 refer to different historical milestones: settlement on the one hand, and documented existence in writing on the other. During the Thirty Years’ War, particularly from 1631 to 1634, Bobnice was looted and completely destroyed by Saxon troops. A school had already been established in Bobnice in the first half of the 18th century. The municipal chronicle covers the years 1757 to 1866.
Bell tower, crosses and monuments
The bell tower on the village square is a vertical landmark that shapes the townscape; the Renaissance bell tower dates from 1894. Bobnice is also home to an iron cross dating from 1860. There is one monument in Bobnice and another in Kovansko. Kovansko is also home to a stone cross dating from 1876, depicting the Virgin Mary and Saint Florian. The two crosses differ in location, material and date: the iron cross from 1860 is in Bobnice, while the stone cross from 1876 is in Kovansko.
Bus, cycling route and accommodation choices
PID bus route 676 serves Bobnice. The stops listed are “Bobnice,” “Bobnice, škola” and “Bobnice, Kovansko.” The timetable is valid from 1 July 2026; check it before travelling, as timetables may change. The bus and cycling route involve different planning considerations: for the bus, the stops and timetable matter; for a cycling trip, the route markings are important. When looking for accommodation, it helps to decide on your priorities in advance: are landscape and local history your main interests, or would you like to include the marked cycling route in your plans? Then compare the location of each accommodation option with your daily plans and the transport or route information that matters to you.
