Lišany combines a Baroque church built on the foundations of an older Gothic church with a documented history, distinctive buildings and cycle path 8168. Baroque Church and Local Cultural History

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a Baroque building built on the foundations of an older Gothic church. Its high altar features a painting of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary by Josef Hueber from 1763. The church therefore offers not only an architectural connection to the older history of the village, but also a clearly dated work of art. Gothic foundations and Baroque design come together in the church to form a building with several historical layers. The older foundations, the Baroque building and the 1763 altarpiece combine architectural history from several eras with sacred art. Lišany is also home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, which is protected as a cultural monument.

Lišany is also associated with the academic painter, illustrator and political caricaturist Antonín Pelc. He was born in Lišany on 16 January 1895 and exhibited in Europe, the United States and Latin America. The historic primary school building adds to these traces of cultural history: it dates from 1884 and was built in the Neo-Renaissance style.

Historical Traces Between the Mill and the Railway

The history of the village dates back to the Middle Ages. A royal court in Lišany is documented for the year 1252. Also in 1252, King Václav issued a document in Lišany for the Vyšehrad Chapter. Those who prefer to trace historical developments through individual buildings and documents therefore receive two different indications of the village’s importance at that time.

The Podhůrka Mill (Zákonův mlýn) is located near an old trade route and was first mentioned in 1521. The V Brůdku Viaduct is part of the Buštěhrad Railway, which was built between 1870 and 1883. An old wooden shepherd’s hut has also been preserved in Ovčín. These examples lead from transport and economic history to rural building traditions.

Natural Area and Cycle Path 8168

The Pod rybníčky natural forest park includes a reedbed habitat and an open meadow. Cycle path 8168 runs through Lišany between Lužná u Rakovníka and Kněževes. This gives you different focal points to choose from when planning your trip: you can focus more on cultural monuments and historic buildings, or put the cycle path and the surrounding landscapes at the centre of your stay. The Bílý Bridge over the Lišanský stream at the entrance to Lišany from the direction of Rakovník dates from 1924 and is considered an architecturally interesting building.
