Kostelní Lhota: Church, Cycling Routes and Traditions
Kostelní Lhota between Church, Cycling Routes and Traditions
Kostelní Lhota combines a distinctive cultural monument with cycling routes, traditional festivals and regional specialities. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the only cultural monument in Kostelní Lhota. Its history is closely connected with the fire of 17 April 1813: between 1815 and 1817, it was rebuilt in the late Baroque style by the master builder J. Braun.
In front of the church stands a stone cross erected in 1894. Christmas concerts are held in the church and organised by the municipality with the participation of pupils from the local primary and nursery school. The cultural focus therefore lies both in the building's history and in the local events calendar. The Christmas concerts connect the church interior with local school and community life.
Cycling on Clearly Defined Routes
Cycle route 8240 runs through Kostelní Lhota and leads via Poděbrady, Písková Lhota and Sadská. In addition, the Lhotecká cyklostezka includes a 1.4 km section from Písková Lhota to Kostelní Lhota and a 1.5 km section from Kostelní Lhota to Sadská. These two specified distances help you compare the desired route direction and the scope of a cycling trip.
Festivals with a Local Character
Staročeské máje are part of Kostelní Lhota's traditional annual festival calendar. Lhotecký masopust has been held at regular three-year intervals since 2014. The Lipová alej also contributes to the area's distinctive history: it received the “Strom hrdina” award from the regional jury. Thus, an annual festival and an event held on a three-year cycle take place side by side.
The Otevírání Svatomartinských vín event primarily presents regional wines from the area around Kutná Hora. Freshly baked geese and homemade Lhota cheeses are also offered. The event therefore combines regional beverages with a local culinary speciality. The regional origin of the wines and the homemade cheeses also give the occasion a clear connection to the surrounding area.
Water and Equestrian Sports
Near Kostelní Lhota, the Výrovka spring lies on cycle route 0124 between Kostelní Lhota and Hořátev, directly beside the stream of the same name. It is a publicly accessible mineral-water borehole that can be easily reached on foot or by bicycle. At Peklo Pond, Rybářské závody were held for the 13th time in the more recent history of the local fishing community. The Vlčí stopa riding club organises trail rides and riding lessons. This section brings together a spring on a cycle route, a pond with a local festival tradition, and a riding club offering trail rides and riding lessons.
Those wishing to combine culture and activity can include a visit to the church together with a cycling trip or a visit to the Výrovka spring in their excursion plans.
