Čečelice between Village History and Landscape

Čečelice lies in the Mělník Basin at an elevation of 180 to 200 metres above sea level. The Košátecký potok flows year-round through the western part of the cadastral area. In the direction of Konětopy, there is a spring with a flow rate of 30 litres per minute and a constant temperature. Ten kilometres north of Čečelice lies the boundary of the Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area. This gives you different points of interest for planning your trip: the village itself, the landscape within the municipality and the nearby edge of the protected area.

A Nature Trail and Routes for Different Day Plans

The Čečelská naučná stezka nature trail forms an approximately 1 km long, easy circular route. It begins in the village centre near the church and ends there. Ten stations with information boards focus on history and local information. The renovated Všetatská pěšina is intended for pedestrians and trekking bicycles. Route No. 8241 also runs from Liblice through Čečelice to U Beranovy rokle. This allows you to choose between a short circular route with permanent information boards and longer routes without confusing the stated length or route details.

Church, Chapel and Historic Village Centre

The Romanesque Church of St Havel in Čečelice preserves a tribune and a tower with battlements from its Romanesque construction period. The church was rebuilt between 1694 and 1711. At the intersection of Dlážděná and U Kapličky streets stands the chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, dating from 1890. In the middle of the village square stands the monument to Jan Hus in front of a former inn. The monument to Karel Havlíček Borovský was ceremonially unveiled on 28 August 1910. These places give the village centre several clearly distinguishable historical points of reference.

History and Living Traditions

Until the first half of the 17th century, Čečelice was an independent knightly estate. Contemporary events also form part of the village’s character: the Čečelice Volunteer Fire Brigade regularly organises the public event Čečelská lávka. During the Staročeské máje celebrations in Čečelice, the Čečelská Poupata participate in processions, singing and dancing. Orientation within the Municipality

Railway line No. 070 between Prague and Turnov runs through the cadastral area of Čečelice. Outside the cadastral area, there are railway stops in Byšice, 1.8 km away, and in Všetaty, 3 km away. Public parking areas are located on the village square around the Church of St Havel and below the municipal office. For planning purposes, the village centre, railway line, stops and signposted routes are therefore available as distinct points of reference.
