Šebkovice combines a remarkable sacred building with protected nature, viewpoints and a railway connection through the Vysočina Region. Families and other travellers who wish to combine culture and landscapes can find a variety of discoveries close together here: a church with medieval features, the historic Hájky lime tree grove, Tašky Hill and the waterways in the municipality.

St. Mary Magdalene: Rotunda, Fortification Traces and Bells

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Šebkovice is a branch church of the Babice parish. Its oldest character is reflected in the Romanesque rotunda with a horseshoe-shaped apse. In the mid-13th century, it was converted into a rectangular presbytery; further alterations followed in the 15th century. This makes it possible to trace, in a single building, how the church changed over several historical periods.

The sacred building formed part of a fortified settlement. Three preserved loopholes are connected with its defensive function and provide an additional historical perspective for visitors. There is also a cross dating from 1910 by František Bílek in the church grounds. The Bells of Reconciliation installed in Šebkovice bear the names St. Mary Magdalene, St. Francis of Paola and St. Mary. Together with the building’s history, this creates a cultural site where architecture, local history and religious tradition meet within a closely connected thematic setting.

Hájky and Tašky: Contrasting Landscapes

The Hájky natural monument is located in the municipality of Šebkovice, in the cadastral area of Milatice, in the Třebíč District of the Vysočina Region. It comprises a historic lime tree grove with natural undergrowth of herbs and shrubs. The site therefore represents not only individual old trees, but a landscape in which the tree population and natural vegetation are jointly characteristic.

Tašky Hill offers a different perspective. A cross donated by local residents stands there. From Tašky, there are views of the church in Čáslavice, Sádek Castle with its vineyards and the southeast of the Třebíčsko region. Anyone who, during their stay, wishes to see not just a single building but also take in the regional horizon will find a clear focus on the landscape here. Four waterways, including the Rokytná, also converge in the Šebkovice area. This adds another defining feature of the local landscape to the cultural impressions.

Getting There and Practical Information

Šebkovice railway station is located on Line 241 from Znojmo via Okříšky to Jihlava. For travelling by train, the specific route is therefore just as relevant as the fact that the station is integrated into an integrated transport system. There is no ticket office at the station; tickets are sold on the train. You should take this into account when planning your train journey.

Access on site is also important for personal travel planning: access to the station building, including the waiting room, is not barrier-free. When choosing accommodation in Šebkovice, you can therefore first decide whether travelling by train, the church, the nature of Hájky or the views from Tašky should be the focus of your stay. The verified features of the locality offer several clearly distinguishable starting points, without the accommodation itself having to be associated with unverified properties.
