Budišov combines castle history, unique collections and paths through the Czech landscape. This makes the town suitable for a stay where you can combine culture and activity: around the castle, historic rooms and a castle chapel await, while hiking and cycling routes lead through Budišov. Railway line 252 and free parking at the castle are also useful practical points of orientation on site.

Budišov Castle and Its Unique Collections

Budišov Castle stands on the site of a medieval moated castle. On the Zámecký okruh sightseeing route, visitors can see areas that were previously inaccessible. These include the Antický Salon and the Rybářský Salon, the newly restored Chapel of Saint Anne, and the Sala terrena. The Sala terrena is a ground-level hall. The restored chapel was opened to the public in 2021. Its extensive High Baroque furnishings from the 18th century are also noteworthy.

Another special feature of the castle is the zoological depot. It is open to visitors; the publicly accessible section displays the oldest collections of preserved birds, mammals, fish and amphibians. The collection is complemented by trophies from hunting expeditions to Africa, Asia and Canada. The pieces on display are specimens and not living animals. The animal specimens and trophies therefore emphasize something different from the historic interiors: here, the focus is on natural-history objects, while there it is on architecture and sacred furnishings.

Castle Park, Church and Paths through Budišov

Budišov Castle Park includes four ponds and is partly designed in the French style. The park adds a landscape setting with four ponds to the castle visit; the French design is limited to parts of the grounds. In Budišov, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and Saint Gotthard is also worth seeing. It dates from the 12th century and preserves two Romanesque windows.

Two routes are central to active days. A blue-marked hiking trail leads through Budišov and connects Třebíč with Velká Bíteš. Cycling route 5206 also leads through Budišov and continues via Kundelov, Studnice and Oslava.

Traditions and Orientation on Site

The local annual calendar includes the Výroční trh, held as a spring pilgrimage on Palm Sunday. A pilgrimage is also held at the parish church of Budišov on the Sunday around the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on 15 August. The two dates fall in different seasons: one is in spring, the other in August. In addition to the castle and park, these two dates give the town a religious and traditional character.

The Budišov stop is located on railway line 252 between Studenec, Kojatín, Rudíkov and Křižanov. Free parking is available at the castle: a small car park in front of the castle and a larger car park behind the nursery next to the castle park.

For further travel planning, you can also discover Pozďatín, Heraltice, Bohušice, Hluboké, Okříšky, Horní Heřmanice, Chlum and Čechtín.
