Heraltice – Village History, Church and Peaceful Surroundings
Accommodation in Heraltice
Heraltice combines a multifaceted village history with sacred architecture, memories of a former fortress and peaceful surroundings. This creates a destination where historical details and outdoor activities bring together different interests – without Heraltice losing its rural character.
From Parish Settlement to Local History
Heraltice emerged in the 12th to 13th century as a parish settlement on the old road from Vienna to Prague. This early connection with an important transport route gives the village’s history a clear chronological and geographical framework. At Panský dvůr, small fragments of cellar rooms and fortifications from the fortress of the Lords of Heraltice have been preserved. The remains thus represent an older history of settlement and rule, which can be traced through individual architectural remnants.Church and Statues in the Village Landscape
One particularly prominent building is the Church of Saint Giles in Heraltice. Its oldest surviving parts are the presbytery and part of the nave. In 1716, the church was completely remodelled in the Baroque style. Today, its form comprises a rectangular nave, a polygonally terminated presbytery and an axially arranged tower with a square ground plan. The presbytery is the front part of the church associated with the chancel area; the polygonal design and the axially positioned tower give the building a clearly articulated silhouette. Individual statues also contribute to the village’s historic appearance. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk near the church was created in 1738 by the sculptor D. Lipart from Brtnice. The statue of Saint Florian stands in the upper part of the village square. It recalls that the church survived the fire of 1761 unharmed. Both figures thus connect specific local details with the events and personalities that shaped Heraltice.Firefighting Museum with Historical Layers
The firefighting museum is housed in a historic building erected at the end of the 18th century. The building stands on the remains of a former fortress from the 13th century, thereby bringing several eras together in one place. During the 1906 renovation, the former cemetery chapel and mortuary were replaced by a side nave known as “Starý kostel”. A larger extension of the firefighting museum was opened on 28 June 2014 to accommodate more exhibits. This date belongs to the museum’s more recent development and shows that its presentation history extends beyond the historic building fabric.Cycling, Autumn Forests and Peace
The area around Heraltice is suitable for cycling. Those who want to combine a stay with exercise and local history will therefore find a second focus alongside the cultural and historical impressions. In the dense forests around Heraltice, autumn is suitable for mushroom picking. This seasonal feature complements cycling with a quieter activity in nature, without requiring specific routes or distances. Heraltice lies away from the district’s main traffic routes. As a result, it is quiet there all year round and free from heavy traffic. This character is particularly relevant when choosing your accommodation if you are looking for a peaceful village with historical themes, cycling and autumn experiences in nature. For a trip involving several interests, you can thus combine culture and landscape without losing sight of the village’s described peaceful setting.Advertisement · We may receive a commission if you book.
