Proseč U Humpolce – Hills, Trails and Cultural Traces

Proseč U Humpolce combines a distinctive hilly landscape with historical traces and several signposted trails. The village is located on road III/34761, approximately 10 kilometres north of Humpolec. This makes its location easy to identify, while the routes and cultural monuments described here offer different ways to shape a stay.

Hills, a Stream and a Viewpoint

Proseč lies in the Křemešnická vrchovina, which forms part of the Českomoravská vrchovina. The area is characterised by varied hills and uplands used for forestry and agriculture. The Meziklaský stream flows northwards along the eastern and northern boundaries of the municipality. The surroundings can therefore be understood not only through individual sights, but also through their landscape structure.

At the eastern boundary of the municipality, Brádla Hill reaches just under 626 metres in elevation. It lies above G. Mahler Way, making it a distinctive point within the local network of routes. For travellers who want to alternate between nature and culture during their stay, this landscape feature complements Proseč’s historical destinations.

Signposted Trails for Hiking and Cycling

The signposted Rohule–Humpolec hiking route runs through Proseč from south to north. A second signposted route is named after the composer Gustav Mahler and runs through Proseč from east to west. The two trails establish different directions within the local landscape: one crosses Proseč along a north–south axis, while the other follows an east–west connection.

For longer trips by bicycle or motorised transport, the Stezka poznání is relevant. It is an approximately 130-kilometre-long, demanding educational route with 52 stations. Forty-two of these stations have information boards; the themes include history, nature and points of interest. The route ends in Proseč near Humpolec. Those looking for a more extensive tour than a single local circuit will therefore find an explicitly longer route concept with several thematic stations.

In addition, Cycle Route No. 211 runs from Kaliště through Proseč and onward towards Záběhlice. Together with the Stezka poznání and the two signposted hiking trails, it offers a choice of different directions for getting around, without requiring the routes to be combined into a single circuit.

Cultural Traces of Varying Significance

The tvrz, with its archaeological traces, is a state-protected immovable cultural monument in the municipality of Proseč. The site probably dates back to the late 14th century. The tvrz was presumably used exclusively for economic purposes together with the adjoining farmstead; after this function was lost, it was finally abandoned. This documented development is precisely what distinguishes the tvrz from a mere historical place name.

In addition, the chapel in Proseč is listed as a monument of local significance. The local information is therefore suitable both for more culture-focused planning and for days when the trails and hills take centre stage.
