Nový Rychnov

Nový Rychnov combines the landscape of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands with surprisingly diverse cultural traces. The town lies in a valley surrounded by hills, where forests, meadows, and numerous ponds alternate. This creates a range of options for a stay: you can make nature and activity the focus, or combine the landscape with historic buildings and regional events.

Landscape of forests, meadows, and pond biotopes

There are good opportunities for hiking and cycling around Nový Rychnov. The character of the landscape is particularly evident at the Ivaniny rybníčky natural monument. It is located in the Pelhřimov District within the market town of Nový Rychnov, in the cadastral area of Sázava pod Křemešníkem, as well as within the municipality of Proseč pod Křemešníkem in the cadastral area of the same name. Pond biotopes containing specially protected species are protected there. This makes the site a distinct natural attraction rather than merely an incidental landscape backdrop.

Individual notable trees are also part of the area's immediate description: At the inlet of the former millworks toward Rohozná stands a protected oak more than 150 years old. The reference to the former millworks also preserves the site's historical context. Walks and cycling tours around Nový Rychnov thus combine open meadows, wooded sections, ponds, and individual points shaped by cultural history.

Church, château, and preserved fortifications

Among the notable buildings is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was built in the Gothic style between 1343 and 1363; the presbytery of the original building has been preserved. A single building thus reveals both its medieval origins and a specific surviving architectural element.

The château in Nový Rychnov was converted by the Leskovec family in the Renaissance style into a rural aristocratic residence. This architectural heritage is complemented by the preserved remains of the V Šancích field fortifications, including ditches and ramparts. Those interested in different historical periods will therefore find Gothic, Renaissance, and military-historical traces in one shared destination area.

The museum is located in the lower part of the former savings bank building, house number 160, which was once a drugstore. Its exact location in a formerly used building is itself part of the town's history. The Maříž–Golčův Jeníkov bridleway, 226 kilometres long, provides another historical point of reference.

Events with a distinct local character

Novorychnovské stezky is a traditional event in Nový Rychnov. For Novorychnovské stezky 2026, the start and finish are at the municipal restaurant by the town hall in Nový Rychnov. Z Nadhledu is also held annually; it took place on 3 January 2026. For this event, a marked route led to a stop at a fire. The two examples show different types of events: one with a designated start and finish, and one offering an experience along a marked route.
