Lidmaň amid forests, water and history

Lidmaň combines a diverse landscape with an unusually large number of traces of the past. Forests, ponds and watercourses shape the surrounding area, while churches, a historic chapel, a water mill and remnants of earlier settlement and mining history offer different ways to discover the area.

A natural landscape of forests, ponds and two drainage directions

Extensive strips of forest stretch along the southern and northern sides of Lidmaň. There are also many larger and smaller ponds in and around Lidmaň. As a result, the landscape is characterized not only by forest, but also by numerous individual bodies of water.

The area around Lidmaň lies within the Želivka catchment and is drained by the Cerekvický potok. At the same time, the Černovický potok rises in the cadastral area of Lidmaň. It flows in the opposite direction and is a tributary of the Lužnice. This different drainage pattern is one of the area's notable geographical features and provides a clear natural framework for exploring the surroundings.

A cycling route and hiking trail for active days

Signposted Cycle Route No. 321 runs through the administrative area of Lidmaň from north to south. It leads from Pacov southwards to Kámen Castle and continues via Dobrá Voda and Lidmaň to Kamenice nad Lipou.

A green-marked, signposted hiking trail also runs approximately from west to east along the northern boundary of the administrative area. It leads from Černovice via Moraveč towards Nová Cerekev. When planning your activities, you can therefore choose between a north–south cycling connection and a hiking route running approximately west to east.

Churches and buildings with a history of their own

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Lidmaň has been mentioned as a parish church since as early as 1384. The present building dates from 1738 and was erected on the site of an earlier church. Two coats of arms are located above the entrance: below is the coat of arms of Count Kinský, and above it the coat of arms of the Schönburgs. These details make the church interesting even for visitors looking not only for a single construction date, but also for historical traces and connections to former rulers.

Another distinctive building is the Baldachýnová kaplička sv. Jana Nepomuckého. The masonry chapel is open on three sides through arcades supported by Tuscan columns. Inside is a cast-iron statue of the saint dating from 1874. The chapel was built in 1874 and completely reconstructed in 1997. Its construction date, open architecture and reconstruction give this small religious building a history of its own within the local landscape.

In the vicinity of Lidmaň is Křížův mlýn s pilou in Lidmaňka, house number 28, in the Pelhřimov District. The complex was declared a cultural monument in the third quarter of 2017. It is an example of a small rural water mill with a sawmill on a watercourse with a low flow; its craft and industrial technical equipment displays a high degree of authenticity. The remains of historic gold mining in Lidmaň, still visible today, are another historical trace. Above Hojava in the direction of Eustach, the nearby remains of the ramparts of the defunct settlement of Višněvice can also still be identified.

Getting there

Lidmaň can be reached via Road III/12818 between Pelhřimov and Černovice, as well as via the connecting Road III/12819 from Kamenice nad Lipou. The nearest railway stop is in Černovice on the Obrataň–Jindřichův Hradec narrow-gauge railway line.
