Vilémovice: Nature, Castle and Educational Trail

Vilémovice combines the Stvořidla nature reserve in the deep Sázava valley, a short educational trail with twelve stations and a castle with a multifaceted history. There are also local customs and several small monuments in the village. Stvořidla and the Sázava Valley

The Stvořidla nature reserve lies in the deep valley of the Sázava and also extends into the cadastral area of Vilémovice. There, a riverbed rich in boulders and numerous rapids characterize the landscape. The protected white-throated dipper lives in the area, among other species, so the wildlife is also one of the features of this natural environment alongside the river landscape.

A special tree is located in the park of Vilémovice Castle: a remarkable yew tree with a trunk circumference of 310 centimetres grows there. It was designated a memorial tree on 16 September 1976. This designation should be understood unchanged as a historical designation; it describes the historical status of the tree, not any additional conditions for visiting or use.

Educational Trail with Games and Tasks

The 1.4-kilometre educational trail continues to Vilémovice and features twelve information stations. The trail also includes the game “13 Eagle Feathers”. At each station, various tasks involving dexterity and reasoning are completed. Castle and Local History

Vilémovice Castle is a Baroque castle remodelled in the Classical style and is considered a valuable example of a small rural aristocratic residence. Ignác Bechyně z Lažan had it built between 1743 and 1746 on the site of a manor farm. After a complete fire in 1825, the castle was subsequently rebuilt in the contemporary Classical style of the time. Today, the historic building represents more than just its origins: Vilémovice Castle currently serves cultural purposes for the municipality.

Historical points of interest can also be found throughout the village away from the castle. West of Vilémovice, beside a path through the fields, stands a late Baroque chapel probably dating from 1727. In the centre of the village, there is a bell tower next to the outdoor swimming pool. Vilémovice also has a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1864. Local culture is likewise reflected in well-maintained traditions, including a carnival procession as well as pilgrimage and parish-fair celebrations.
