Rozsochatec – Castle Park, Listed Monument and Hiking Trails

Rozsochatec is a destination for you if you would like to combine historical traces with paths through the countryside during your stay. Between the listed monument, old trees, places of remembrance and marked hiking trails, there are various ways to discover the area. Castle, Castle Pond and Historical Traces

Rozsochatec Castle is registered as a listed monument. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1714 stands on the dam of the castle pond. This means that in the castle grounds you will encounter not only a protected building, but also a specific historical detail with a clearly documented date.

At the southern edge of Rozsochatec stands a cross stone with a relief of a cross. Its partially legible inscription commemorates the killing of a young man on 4 April 1648. Another historical reference is the Rozsochatská huť glassworks: it is first documented in Rozsochatec in 1786 and was abandoned in 1794 or shortly afterwards. Both places complement a visit to the castle with traces that tell of different periods in the history of the area.

Old Trees in the Castle Park

Two yew shrubs grow in the castle park, their age estimated at between 900 and 1,000 years. Two remarkable free-growing small-leaved lime trees also grow north of the castle grounds. Their age is estimated at around four centuries. This creates a special focus for you if, during a visit to the area, you would like to pay attention not only to buildings and monuments, but also to old, naturally grown features.

Hiking Trails in Different Directions

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs through Rozsochatec, connecting Havlíčkův Brod with Chotěboř. A green-marked route runs from Lysá via Rozsochatec and Česká Bělá to Havlíčkova Borová. The two routes open up different options for planning a day of hiking without requiring you to limit yourself to just one destination area.

A yellow-marked route to Ronovec Castle also runs in the vicinity of Rozsochatec; the trail is approximately 3 km long. Rozsochatec also has a railway stop on the line from Havlíčkův Brod to Chotěboř. When choosing your accommodation, both hiking destinations and the location on this railway line may therefore play a role, although no information about travel times or train connections should be inferred from this.

Event Date and a Stay in the Countryside

On 26 September 2026, the Pivní pochod Rozsochatec will follow an approximately 20 km route from Rozsochatec via Chrast, Břevnice, Ždírec and Jilemník back to Rozsochatec. This event connects the starting and finishing points with a longer, fixed route through several places.

At “Penzion na zámku”, holidaymakers can, among other activities, go horseback riding, hunt game and fish as part of agrotourism.
