Kyjov between History and Landscape

Kyjov combines a documented history with surroundings where nature experiences, historical traces and shared activities come together. The first written mention of Kyjov dates back to 1351. Kyjov was probably founded during the large-scale settlement of the surrounding landscape after around 1250. The area around Kyjov features extensive meadows and numerous forests consisting predominantly of spruce. Several ponds are important landscape-defining elements there. The Břevnický stream is also one of the town's interesting natural features: Kyjov is one of the municipalities affected by the section from Břevnice to its confluence with the Sázava near Havlíčkův Brod. This section is home to a large population of bullhead. The landscape can therefore be explored not only through its visible meadows, forests and bodies of water, but also through its aquatic habitats.

Historical Destinations and Orientation

For geographical orientation, Břevnice railway station is approximately 800 metres from Kyjov. It is located on the Havlíčkův Brod–Pardubice railway line. In the vicinity of Kyjov, the Ronovec castle ruins are also located approximately four kilometres to the north in the surrounding forests. Together with the town's early history, this creates a historical focus that you can take into account when planning your own excursions without losing sight of the landscape.

Cycling and Natural Swimming

The 56-kilometre cycle loop from Havlíčkův Brod to Chotěboř and back passes through Kyjov. The route runs along forest and field paths as well as paved sections. These different route surfaces are specific information to consider if you would like to plan a cycling trip according to its individual sections. A pond near Kyjov serves as a natural swimming area and provides another focal point, alongside the cycle loop, for planning a day during your stay.

Events and Places for Children

Kyjovská drakiáda is a local kite-flying event held repeatedly and organised by the volunteer fire brigade association of the municipality of Kyjov. Kyjovská olympiáda is a children's sports event held repeatedly as part of Children's Day in Kyjov. A Children's Day event with a neighbourhood gathering was also organised in Kyjov by the municipality together with the local volunteer fire brigade association. There is a playground for young children; Kyjov also has a multifunctional playground that is used not only by local residents.
