Rožná: Church and Chapel, Hradisko and Forest Landscape
Accommodation in Rožná
Rožná combines a forest-rich landscape with remarkable traces of local history. The municipality lies at an elevation of 461 metres in a hollow that is somewhat open to the northwest and is almost completely surrounded by forests. For your travel planning, this results in a clear range of options: you can combine cultural sights in the village with an excursion to Hradisko, a bike ride or a stay at the sports complex.
Church, Chapel and Local History
An important landmark is the Church of St. Gall. An expert assessment from 1993 dates it to the second half of the 13th century. Its structural connection to the rectory is also noteworthy: an iron footbridge crosses the road to Dolní Rožínka. Inside is a marble baptismal font dating from 1684. The church therefore offers several specific points of historical interest rather than appearing merely as a place name in travel planning.
Rožná's religious history also includes the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was consecrated on 16 June 1895. Anyone interested in the development of the village and its local characteristics can find information about the municipality in the municipal library, which collects, preserves and provides access to this knowledge.
Hradisko: Minerals, Trails and Views
Hradisko lies about 500 metres northeast of Rožná and has a small quarry. The site is known as a place where rare minerals have been found. In 1785, the engineer Karel Ručínský discovered lepidolite and rubellite, a pink-coloured tourmaline, there. This history explains why Hradisko is also visited by mineralogy field trips, usually from schools in Brno.
Two access routes are documented for finding your way around the area. From the Nedvědička valley, the path leads through the Sušírna valley and then over the spoil heaps to the summit. Another access route is a forest track from the road to Zlatkov; it begins about 200 metres below the petrol station. From Hradisko, there is a beautiful view of the former uranium site near Dolní Rožínka, particularly the spoil heaps. The word “former” is crucial here: the view concerns past use and not a current uranium deposit.
Swimming, Cycling and a Regional Festival
Another option during a stay in Rožná is the Koupaliště Rožná outdoor pool in the municipality's sports complex. The outdoor pool measures 30 × 10 metres and is intended for swimming.
Cyclists can also include Rožná on a longer route: cycling route 5130 from Nové Město na Moravě to Pernštejn passes through the village at kilometre 21.00. The Havelské hody festival is an important part of the cultural year. It is celebrated in Rožná every other year with a maypole. Together with the Church of St. Gall and the chapel, this creates a village setting in which religious history, landscape and tradition stand closely side by side.
